It might help us all to keep a record of which agencies have issued US tax form 1099-Misc

Here is my record to date:
Creative Market - Yes, but note that they report gross income not net. You can get a statement on the site of their fees
Shutterstock - Yes
Getty Images - Yes
Envato - Yes, but note that they report gross income not net. You can get a statement on the site of their fees
Deposit Photos - Yes
Dreamstime - Yes
BigStock - Yes, but it is actually from Shutterstock this year

I can't find anything so far from Adobe/Fotolia

Sorry to be a pain, but do you have links to where they keep the documents? Sometimes it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Thanks!

Had to get a new computer and my Envato password isn't working.  I have gone thru the forgotten password procedure twice with no luck.  Now they've booted me off the site.  Not sure I'll ever be able to find the page where they listed what they took out.  I know I was at 40% level,  so presumably 60% of total recorded, but no proof for the IRS if I should need it.

Good suggestion.   Unfortunately I am anonymous here, and I just flamed him, so unlikely I'll get much help.  I may try emailing Support in their site.

Such a lot of trouble for a low earner.  Maybe I should be grateful they dumped me.  Will make my tax situation much simpler next year.

^^ They have been available for download for weeks.
There should be a link at the top of your Contributor Dashboard.

if you did not receive your form, you can go to your local federal building and get a printout of your 1099's for any year.

Is 123RF's 1099 ready for anyone yet? Mine is still 2015.

I hope they get it ready for this early this week. This delay is ridiculous.

Still nothing.  And last years didn't exactly match my numbers.  I went with theirs to be on the safe side.  Getting my taxes done this week.  I will have to go with my own numbers for them and file without their 1099.  Cant wait forever....!

I just sent in my taxes. I had to use Excel Sales Spreadsheets for Pond5 and iStock. Not ideal, but it is what it is. I know they're accurate, and if I ever needed to, PayPal no doubt has records backing it up.

Fotolia sends out a 1099.

I'm starting to wonder if it is a delay or if they just aren't doing them this year.

It's completely unacceptable. 1 month away from tax day and they still don't have it available. I took the 2016 total from the website and added it to the yearly total in my 8829 and sent all the forms to my accountant. I think that's the only thing I can do at this point.

Yeah, they take their sweet time. I'm waiting to file until I get it. It's the ONLY one I need.

That's a good idea. Thanks!

Last year their total and the one from my own records were different.   I had forgotten I could get the total on their site.  On the off chance they ever send the 1099 I want the numbers to be consistent.

I used to have to issue 1099 forms to people I hired.

I seem to recall they have to be sent by Jan 31 of every year if the person made more than $600 for the year. There are exceptions whereby you do not have to send the 1099 but I do not remember what they are.

Exactly!   They were supposed to go out by 1/31.  That's why this is so ridiculous.   If they are not sending 1099s they should just say so, so the rest of us can move on with our lives.

FWIW, last year 123RF screwed up and sent me a 1042-S for people living outside the US instead of the correct form, 1099, even though they had my w-9 information on the site. Not geniuses these guys.  ::)

If they pay via Paypal, that's one of the exceptions. (I agree they should say so, but there are others who also don't send 1099s that don't mention it.) I believe Paypal is supposed to issue a 1099-K, but only if you've received more than $20K and had more than 200 transactions. Don't quote me, however.  :)

I did my taxes last weekend and had to use summaries of payouts from several agencies - including Shutterstock! - because they had not bothered to provide the forms that are legally mandated in the US to be sent by Jan 31st.  For the ones where i made less than $600 they are not required to provide the form but for SS and Canva that was not the case.  As far as I can tell, Canva, pond5, and 123rf just don't bother, although Canva said they will get serious next year but withhold Australian income tax.  DT does if it's over $600.  SS has said they will provide the info by today but I was going out of town and wanted to get it over with so just used a summary of their payouts - crude but it works.  Other agencies managed to provide the proper form even when below $600.

Very annoying that they all do it differently -  most count only money paid out, which I think is correct, but others (FT and Envato) list the amount earned regardless of whether it was paid out.  Then of course you have to deduct off the Envato "author fees" and put in a credit for any foreign tax paid (DAX payout and Canva next year).  Way too complicated.  I'm glad at least I don't live in Europe and have to deal with VAT.

Has anyone noticed discrepancies between the 1099 from Adobe/Fotolia and their actual Paypal payments?
I have a couple of hundreds more received through Paypal, than what they specified in their 1099. I also remember that, last year, I also had a small discrepancy and my accountant advised me to follow the 1099, instead of Paypal reports.

All other agencies I got a 1099 from are accurate to the cent (DP, DT, Getty, P5 and SS)

I'm meeting tomorrow my account without having 1099 from Alamy, 123RF, 500px, FAA (FAA is the only one below $600).

I keep my own records and at least three sites reported paying me slightly more than my records indicate.  FT was one of them.  Since they were small amounts - under $100 in each case - I just went with what was on the 1099.  Probably the discrepancy,  in my case, is I record what I earned in a month and they report what they paid out.

Yes, FT seems to put the amount earned that year, regardless of whether it was paid out.  You could have received more than is on the 1099, for example, if you earned a lot near the end of 2015 but didn't request payout until 2016.  That money would have been credited to your 2015 earnings by FT even though you didn't receive it until 2016.  Or at least that's as far as I can tell.  The way to make them closer is to always request payout around the middle of December and then hope they get it sent before the end of the year.  Envato seems to do it that way too.

Pretty much they can avoid penalties if they send before March 31st:

Code: [Select]
Businesses, including tax-exempt and government entities, must send Copy A of Form 1099-MISC to the IRS by:
January 31 of the following year when youre reporting non-employee compensation payments in Box 7;
February 28 if filing by paper when youre NOT reporting non-employee compensation in Box 7; or
March 31 if filing electronically when youre NOT reporting non-employee compensation in Box 7.

Royalties are in Box 2.
