I've received an email about Wemark being live.

Just had a look and it seems that they will pay contributors in Wemark Tokens...
Does anyone understand how we can convert these to real money? :s

It depends on your country. But if someone here is expert in blockchain it would be cool to know. Or only places that accept ETH directly?

Commission is 100% for that "Go" license. So it's like every other agency. If you apply for selling "Pro" licenses you can sell EL until 500 usd.

They spent way to long with my images on hold. I think it was over a year. They are simple not transparent on their terms. Mostly just a gut feeling they are not here to stay. I deleted over 2000 images, maybe a mistake but made me fell warm and fuzzy to delete and get away.

Understandable. Let's see what happens next with them.

Thanks, I might give them a few photos as a test and try to understand how it works along the way.

Would be great indeed if someone could explain more about blockchain and changing these currencies into real money.

Bitcoin has been successful in the past, so maybe they will also be? who knows. Or maybe it's a scam and I'll never see these photos back  :-X

I don't think they are a scam. They are backed by some big companies in Europe and have a lot of money to make startups based in crypto.

The 85% royalty for photographers looks really promising and can't wait to see getty, ss and the other microstock sites go bust.

Royalty is stated very clearly on the same page you quoted that price. Creators get 85% (WeMark takes 15%)  If you were an early supplier of media, you get 100% royalty on those images.

I do find it interesting that they charge users in Dollars, yet pay artists in <<??>>

<<??>> being exposure  ;D

No seriously I hope they clarify it soon, but it seems a bit like a gamble if the value of your tokens/credits fluctuate all the time. You could have a few hundreds turn into thousands and vice versa.

You will be paid in Wemark Tokens, buyers will pay in tokens using smart contracts. Tokens will go up and down in value. I don't know how we'll set a price if the price of tokens changes all the time? Unless we set the price in currency and the Wemark site converts that to token value.

I'm sceptic, but I'll give it a try.

Wemarks, WMK or Wemark Tokens, are tied to Etherium and apparently valued at about 20 cents. That's what I found about the buy in. If we set our own prices, there could still be people who would cut to bare minimum hoping to get more downloads with low prices. I don't think this will compete with subs, no matter what.

I'm watching. While coin is the future, it might not be a just over the hill kind of thing.

Do you guys think Wemark is going to stick? I'm not familiar with their services yet. Am I missing out?

I dont think it is a scam, I just really dont see an advantage for the customers.

Just because the buzzwords blockchain and crypto are used somewhere in their marketing - how does that translate to more sales?

And nobody is stopping other agencies from accepting cryptos as additional currencies if they want to.

I found a bit of reading here and there, and here's what I understand so far about Wemark and what it means for us contributors, breaking it down in a few points.

1) They call themselves a platform and not a stock agency, so contracts are directly between the buyers and photographers.

2) They offer 100% royalties for downloads that look like subs (Wemark Go images cost between $0.27 and $0.95 per download), and 85% for something similar to a premium collection (Wemark Impress ranges from $25 to $500 per image).

How does that translate to the amount of WMK we get per sale? Is it fixed or does it fluctuate? It's unclear.

3) They offer transparency for all licenses and payments (excluding personal details) and that's where blockchain comes in. It (as in blockchain) basically registers all these transactions publicly within their system.

Also, it seems that photos can be registered in blockchain (not sure if that's done automatically during upload or if it needs to be done separately somewhere else) in order to get an image ID, creator ID, Hash and Timestamp. I'm guessing this would be useful if we ever live in a world where everybody uses blockchain to track down thieves and people using our images without a valid license. Is that useful for now? No idea.

Some info about these buzzwords: https://medium.com/cryptolinks/cryptocurrency-in-a-nutshell-4ad5de1bd36e

4) Contributors will be paid in WMK and there's a field in billing information to add a 'ERC-20 Compatible Wallet Address'

It seems that we would have to create a crypto wallet somewhere (vaguely similar to a PayPal account but for Cryptocurrency) to get these WMK coins transferred there... and from there we should be able to sell them, exchange them or withdraw them in our country currency? If anyone knows more about that, please share :)

Honestly, I think the site might have some potential but that crypto currency thing is way too confusing and uncertain. Therefore simple no-go to me.

Indeed. I think the "Impress" is more direct but the standard Go is like subs
