Lightroom has proved to be the simplest & fastest way to keyword images. Most of all if you plan to save time use Yuri's keywording tool and embed the keywords in lightroom.

Keywords should describe what is physically and prominently visible in the image. Try to avoid use of subjective words unless they are relevant to the image.

Always keep yourself in buyers shoes and think if you want to buy an image what keywords would you type to find an image. If you feel you would not use certain keywords avoid them. Hope this helps

We use our in-house software, it fills the data like copyright and author automatically, spell-checks the title, description, and keywords, counts the keywords and words in the description, gets rid of duplicates, has an ability to sort keywords by priority, has an ability to detect if files have identical keywords... etc... and then you just drag and drop the files onto the software's window and fills in all the fields.

I use PS it seems to do a great job. Interesting to see all the different ways!

Bridge, pro stock master have also proved helpful

Depends and various, sometimes I use one to start and the other to finish. For quick changes I use Irfanview or Prostock Master. But the best for applying data to all fields that all agencies will read?

Finding the words, I pretty much do that myself based on what people will actually search for, not a stretch of insanity that someone may be looking for inflatable, circular, pressurized, rubber, object, instead of just typing in Balloon? Come on, get real!

I still think people are kidding themselves with the obscure variations in their keywords. And like the seashells, bottles on a towel on the sand, with Red and other not matching words. The pictures sells because of the image, not because people are looking for something else and are taken by the amazing shot they found that doesn't match what they are searching for.

The best keywords are the simple truth.

I can explain it to any fisherman, or someone who has fished in hopes of getting that big catch. (hey kind of like selling photos isn't it?) The first question when someone shows a big fish is, what bait did you use? Somehow the success is attributed to the lure, not the skill of the fisherman. So others will go out and buy the same bait, because they will catch big fish with it.

Carry that down to people spamming keywords and making sales, so others think, if I add 100 keywords, I'll get more sales. But what's missing is What's In The Picture" how well was it shot? People don't sell junk photos they sell well produced, well lighted, desirable photos of subjects that buyers want. They don't see a photo because it has been keyworded with spam or all the words in the thesaurus that are close to what's in the image,.

So the new people buy the same bait, hoping that their image will sell better, but it's not the words and not the bait, it's the actual skill of the photographer/fisherman that makes the sale.

Nice camera, I bet it takes good pictures. 
Oh you have 50 keywords, I bet that image gets a lot of downloads? 

It may be important to have good tools and knowing how to use them is next, but in the end, it's the technique for the fisherman or photographer that produces the results, not the BAIT!
