we  see lots of images taken from incredible places eg. volcano,
space, tsunami,etc...
some photographers even become famous simply because they were the only ones there to shoot them. eg. due to their jobs,
or luck to live in /visit  such places.
it's no secret that some photos are quite ordinary, other than being in the right place at the right time.

which would you admire more? incredible photos taken from an ordinary
place?   ordinary photos taken from an incredible place?

Both

First mentioned , may even be low quality crappy photos  , but if the object intrigues me thats enough to pull my attention , even knowing that photographer sucks in that part of his work. I saw quite a few photos of that type that stayed in my memory.

Second ones , well I will sure look them in some other way , and the composition will be much more important then the object.

Personally I find a great photo , one that has best of those 2 worlds.  Some great photographers , were lucky enough find themselves in right position at the right time.

I only disagree with the "lucky" aspect of this discussion.  Yes, sometimes it's pure luck you are at the right place at the right time for something extraordinary, but great photographers normally do a lot of studying and planning before shooting - scouting locations, checking weather, waking up in early hours to hike to a special location, waiting for days until they get that special light for their subject.
