Here's something of a spit in the ocean ;
okay okay, I know it's utterly ridiculous a thought.
Still,  I am a big Disney fan, and believe in Peter Pan, although I did not work with Disney like sjlocke. But seriously, ... let's say you have 5 wishes from the magic genie.. that say you can replace the Big 6 with the rest of the list, including newbies.

Which site would you like to see make the Big 6. In your order of merit..
1,2,3,4,5,and 6.
You can give your reasons if you like.

What's the worse that can happen? Maybe your vote will inspire the CEOs of the list to try make it happen for us. And we'll all live happily ever after...
instead of hitting the bottle  ;)

If you could set up a Poll we could have a vote.

No, that would be too long a list. It 's better we just mentioned our wish list of 6 sites.
I don't want to single out any "favourites". That would not be accurate.

I think my first wish would be for a big bottle of whatever you're drinking.

1) BigStock
because it's not that impossible for them to go up a rung or two . right after Getty kills StockXpert and another site in the Big 6 commits another SUB suicide.

2) Cutcaster
because John Griffin is the coolest CEO on MSG

3) Zymmetrical
as soon as Keith makes it easier to upload images and keyword them.

4) Veer Marketplace
because there is nothing more satisfying than see Corbis kick Getty's a#se.

5)...  no one else,   but if PhotoShelter came back from the dead,
they would surely be top of my list.

Any of these will be much better than cutting my wrist, lol.

1- Zymm because they give 70% to contributors
2- Dreamstime (although they are already there) because I always liked them
3- Veer Marketplace ( I have high hopes)
4- StockXpert if they could get independent once again (to piss off Getty)
5- Yay Micro (fast upload and nice people)

2 and 4 have been disqualified. You cannot chose any existing site in the Big 5

Cutcaster, because I want to set my own price. If I don't sell anything, I might lower my prices, but at least it would be up to me.  As it is now, we have no control over our prices - we just get notified every time they've been been cut, which lately is about every 2 weeks.

Hopefully there will be solution that will eliminate middle man. Google as search engine, some storage like Amazon or Windows Azure and payment system from PayPal or Amazon. The company will allow to download software, setup own server and register within their site (actually maybe multiple site like DNS servers).

1.  Zymmetrical.  It was great getting $70 for a $100 EL sale.  They have replied to most of our questions here and the site has had lots of improvements.
2.  Cutcaster.  John is putting in a great effort and the site is very contributor friendly.  It is so much better than some of the top 6 sites.
3.  Yaymicro.  Very easy to upload and they have proved they can get sales by doing deals with a 3rd party.  Hopefully they can do more.
4.  Mostphotos.  No reviews, what a great idea.  Let the buyers decide what they want.
5.  Our own site.  I still have the dream :)

This is interesting, with your tally so far at ---

#1 tie : Cutcaster 3  Zymmetrical 3
#2 tie : Veer 2  Yaymicro 2
#3 tie : BigStock 1 Photoshelter (demise) 1 Mostphoto 1 (own site ) 1.

It's pretty good for both John (CC) and Keith (Z). Which isn't too surprising, as these two people have been the most pro-active here.

mela, I am not sure if every one has the time to eliminate the middle man.

Yes.  For Google, it's right there for the taking. Give us some standards for publishing and keywording our images so Google's crawler can find them, let us submit our URLs, then GoogleStock does the search, puts up the thumbnails (with a couple of paid ads on each page, of course) and we sell direct. That's what the "semantic web" is supposed to be all about - developing well-defined ways to publish content, searchable by standard methods.

OT, but still related...
I suppose you both may be on to something.
Eliminating the middle man would still enable buyers to pay the same price, and yet we contributors earn far more . Minus the cost of the private site, of course.

It does , however, have to be user-friendly, as not all of us are IT wizkids. And it has to be safe. Like what happens in fraud purchases?

Naturally the beauty will be NO REVIEWERS, and it's up to each of us to edit ourselves well.

I am sure many will rejoice to see Atilla lose his/her job  ;)

PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC.

You can start a new topic on eliminating the middle man, if you wish.
But this topic is mine. Thx.

I don't really participate in many that aren't in the Big 6, so I can't say I have an additional 6 agencies that I have a secret crush on. Fotolia is really the only place that makes me cranky, so I might banish them off of the Big 6 and replace them with someone else. I would suggest Bigstock as replacement, but I have issues with their upload limits. I guess I'll pick Veer MP to replace them. They still have a clean slate. I also always liked LuckyOliver's site. Are we allowed to resurrect them in this imaginary world?

for me,

I dont really have big 6 I have the top 4 (not in any order) (is,ft,dt & ss) then the next 4 (StockXpert, BigStock, 123, canstock) then 2 (crestock & fp) (although veer last month hit this area) and then the lower ones

canstock for me has beaten either 123 or BigStock each month it is a site I have hopes of going further (biggest sales for me there are early in month, whereas everyone is later in month)

long term I see StockXpert dying the slow death of never having anything put into and anythign it produces sucked back out until it hits the 'low earners' bit at the bottom. My hope is that veer will be on current StockXpert level in about a year, and pushing into top4 within 2 :)

other than that my cracked and cloudy crystal ball doesnt see a lot change except that maybe some others will hit the current crestock and fp level.

But going more emotive :) and with the magic wand for the big 6 I'd

keep DT
definetly put in zymm
probably cutcaster for reasons already given, (think I to start submitting there)
Featurepics

sad thats pretty much it on the emotion side :) I'm pretty indifferent either way to BigStock & 123rf so maybe throw them in

sorry , I went off topic before, I didn't vote either ,so here I make up.
I like Phil's emotion side , with zymm, cutcaster, featurepics, and hey watderhell, let's throw in yay while we 're still dreaming (heh!heh! bad pun).
canstock and scanstock, maybe, if either of them could pull themselves into getting something really
effective.

that's 6 new big 6. now, back to harsh reality... arghhhh, it's still a nightmare ... and getting worse!!!
