...you find a huge hairy spider in your bathroom and your first thought is: "Hm, if I move it to the white part of the wall, I will get a better shot!"

What are your "Maybe I'm a bit strange"-Moments?

(I hope a little humor is welcome in here)

You talk yourself into taking a shot of an industrial "Sluice Valve" on a construction site because, well....how many industrial sluice valves can you be compeating against?

When you get a strange rash, cut, sunburn etc, and your first thought is, "This will sell like hotcakes on Shutterstock."

When you are so sick of keywording that you just keep editing and piling up images into a folder on your hard drive instead...  like doing all of your laundry, but never folding it or putting it away.

When your grocery shopping list coincides with your shoot list.

When you plan the weeks menu around the foods you want to shoot so you can use and profit from your groceries.

When everyone is at the table waiting to eat while you get "just one more shot".

When you consider how to photoshop the brand off just about every item in your home because it could become a useable prop.

photographers see the world from such a wider and different perspective than civilians, that's a big plus and i wouldn't worry too much about what the average Joe thinks.

The both posts of the "huge hairy spider" were the best until now. I laughed a lot with them:

- you find a huge hairy spider in your bathroom and your first thought is: "Hm, if I move it to the white part of the wall, I will get a better shot!"
- You know you are a Microstocker when the huge hairy spider in your bathroom earn more money that you...

Congratulations!

...
when your family calls to congratulate you because they saw your photos on
the subway, xxx website, book cover,etc...
and then asked how much you were paid for each...
(then the phone suddenly got disconnected when you told them how much) 8)

Guilty as charged :)

....  when you make less money this month than last ...

:( ...there's always next month...

when your family calls to congratulate you because they saw your photos on
the subway, xxx website, book cover,etc...

Still waiting for that moment!  8)

...one more thing: When you get more excited about a 30 cent download on a new site than about the real-life paycheck that brings considerably more money...  :o

.....because you know, that no matter how many more images you added, some other 'b****r' added ten times as many and buried all of yours.  ;D

In this scenario, both get worked up and suffer equally - the spider and the shooter.
The difference between the photographer and spider is that the spider gets into the pictures without developing a rejection complex.
The other difference is that even if that picture sells only once, he didn't live in vain (the spider, of course).

Thanks for this thread.
It seems I'm further on the road to recovery than I'd realised. So many of the posts above I'm thinking, "Yeah, that was me".
However, now that I'm spending a lot of time on Zooniverse, currently doing PenguinWatch, I have to admit that even though I know full well that the cameras are field cameras (Reconyx), set to fire at timed intervals, and that the vast majority of the photos will only be used for the purpose of counting penguins, I still cringe when I see colour fringing.
