Hi Yuri A.,

you probably don't know me ... I've seen hundreds of wonderful pictures from your portfolio over the years. But today is the day when I want to say: I just admire you!

Why? Well, I've just discovered two of your pictures in this week's Top 50 Photos at Shutterstock (see one of them here). Please don't midn me, but these 2 pictures have by far the worst fake mirror effect I've seen in a long time ... I mean some of the people are levitating, floating in space, others are standing there with one foot lifted. I wouldn't have even dared to submit a picture like these (actually I'm also unable to take pictures like these) but however: you made it into the Top 50! Unbelievable. Congratulations, sincerely! :) :)

Man, that is a poor composite.  Same people repeated, each person with different lighting, and the aforementioned floor issue.

That's the problem with letting the work out of your hands.

Isn't that what people do on SS, though?  They just download whatever catches their eye?

I just wish I had the models to make a composite like that myself.  I would also settle for 10% of Yuri's income not to mention his girlfriend. (Whew!) Lay off Yuri, he's entitled to an occasional mistake or oversight.  We've all done it.  The only difference between his and mine is the fact that the inspectors catch all of mine.

I am sure we all have a few images in our portfolios that aren't representative of our best work.  The difference between my goofs and Yuri's is he makes a fortune off his!   That is something to admire - and maybe envy...?

He he. Now you mention it the third person from the left appears to exist only above the waist. Either that or he has just the one leg in a very painful position.

And sixth from the left has a hole in his stomach, and seems to be standing next door but one to himself.

I would also settle for 10% of Yuri's income...

I think you'd be very disappointed.

I'm not normally someone who studies how much other people sell and make, however I was shocked at a post I saw detailing how much he made in one month, I don't know whether it was true or not because for some people he's an icon and as such 'chinese whispers' tend to spread around, but if the statement was true and what he say's regarding the number of people he employs is true then believe me I'm making more money than him.

Remember in business the only figure that counts is 'net'.

As for the photo mentioned in this original thread, yeah it's bad and it makes him look bad, it also highlights the problems with reviewers in microstock, it doesn't really matter whether he did it or one of his assistants it's his name that's at the bottom, he proudly states that no image ever gets uploaded until he's approved it, of course we all know that's marketing talk at least for his sake I hope it is!
As pointed out earlier it actually goes to prove that on SS buyers just download anything, I'd be interested to see if the image has ever been used.

Absolutely, in fact I have an image in my portfolio that although there's nothing wrong with it technically, I made a major blooper with the concept it was portraying and it wasn't until well after it had been on sale and sold a few times that I noticed, it still sells though !

Note about Yuris income. He makes a lot. He spends a lot. He nets decent money. BUT, it he would retire right now, he would still have ~10,000 great images that will make him a LOT of money for next few decades.

So you can think of it like he is an investor. He cashes very few dividends but his worth is large (because his fortune is in his photos).

To those who I confused: Lisa's point is exactly my point too. Except for the envy of course ... :)

Decades?!!?

Any lifestyle type shot by any photographer will look dated in a few years! Just look at some of the older macro stuff, less than ten years old and looking old fashioned.

I don't think it is a mistake. The relfections all match perfectly,
and I suspect floating is what he was going for.

Come on guys, we all have at least a couple of crappers in our portfolios.  Stuff from early on, or just ones we made when we were having an off day.

What did a famous gangster rapper once say?
"Don't hate cuz ya can't relate..."

Also, why would Yuri give a crap what people say about him.  He makes more money in a month than most of us make in a year :D LOL

I reviewed one of his batches today, and I can personally say that it was flawless.  I was careful about reviewing them, too - I don't make exceptions for anyone.  Every image got reviewed just as carefully as the next guy's.
