Title: After effects vs Premier for stock video
Post by: Rage on November 25, 2018, 10:58
Hi, wanted to get some advise on if premier is a better editing solution for stock video. Have been using after effects for stabilization, little color grading and some noise reduction. I load multiple clips, make multiple compositions, edit them and render using adobe encoder. Will premier give me a better flow since the filters are all available there as well

I don't think so, as far as the basic operation and workflow they are pretty much the same. I'd stick with After Effects, you never know when are you going to need it's advanced tools.

Can't seem to find some things like optical flow for slow motion and a lot of the lumetri scopes in AE. Thats where the thought started

export times are much faster if you work from Premiere. Even if you use exactly the same effects as in AE. The difference is like 12min from AE and 2min from Premiere. It doesn't matter if you export via AME. I've added results here: https://video-stock.org/test-pc-mac-video-rendering-performance-with-defined-adobe-premiere-project/

Thats very very strange, it seems that using After effects is somehow limiting the CPU usage (30% in your test). I've noticed a glitch though, sometimes during rendering 4k vidoes after effects does this throttling of CPU usage. Not sure why it happens only for 4k

Well so point one in premier's favor, faster render times

It was strange to me too... and I tried with different versions of AE. Maybe I should repeat the test with the 2019 release. If the problem stays I'll put this as a bug on the long list I will send to Adobe. EDIT: I tried with the 2019 AE, no change in render time.

AP for stabilization? it is not really a competition for AE. If you are into it - I would recommend using Devinci which have the most up to date 1 click stabilization feature, and the best grading options. It is more complicated, but not too much, just some hours of youtube guides.

Tried doing that as well, it made the decision even more complicated. Hence just the AE vs Ap ask.
