I was wondering what the general practice is for adding video clip start and ends fades. I have submitted just over 10 videos to SS all of which were accepted, but the thumbnail on some of them are black.......the color of my dissolve. I am wondering if I should just submit them without any fades.

Thoughts?

You can change the default thumb on the edit page of approved footage - navigate to see all approved footage and click on the pencil to edit, the link underneath the thumb allows you to choose a new thumbnail. Hope that helps.

most people dont do any effects on their vids - just straight video for 10-20 seconds and thats it.

most buyers will just use a snippet of a video most of the time anyway in their projects, so they will add / modify any effects they want in their projects anyway, if that is in their vision/ clients vision.

Don't do any effects- the end user will do that. But try to give them a bit more front and back than just the "best part of the clip" so they have footage to cross dissolve or fade into.  On SS, you can go into the clip after it's up and edit the thumbnail to get the part you want. Go to the approval status, approved clips, edit, and then click on the thumbnail on the upper left to pick the frame you want.
edit- just noticed that JoggaO already posted about the thumbnail edit- I'm too slow!

And thanks for asking the question. I would have done something stupid and been asking the same thing, in a few months. Everyone else, thanks for the good advise.

Yes, Race, I mean uncle Pete, I agree.  I am trying to use my experience from stills so I shorten my learning curve for video.
