I mean some clips like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6q3Ydsbt1Y
I saw many timelapses in the movies but almost none of this kind.

Hello Irina,

i'm doing a lot of hyperlapse. Not exactly like the ones in your link, but similar. And they sell. Here are a few examples of sold clips the last few months:

Really great clips Martin! Your 245 videos on Shutterstock beat some 2K+ collections I've seen. I guess you shoot them in different techniques: hendheld, with tripod and with motorized slider, right?

Yes, i use all techniques available.
All the expensive stuff like sliders, drones etc. are only affordable because of macro and microstocking, besides my regular occupation.

Unfortunately Getty Images is exclusive only so my best work is there, because i'm earning the most with them.

I took a look at your port on Shutterstock and i'm hungry right now! ;)
Really great clips!
What camera did you use for the slow mo shots?
I'm waiting for the Panasonic GH5 because of its probable possibility to shoot in 120fps...

Best regards,

Martin

Thank you! I shoot on Sony RX10 mark II but there is mark III coming along with 24-600 mm lens instead of 24-200. They both have 240 fps of 1920x1080 and up to 1000 fps of smaller size frames.

I do hyperlapses as well. So you feel it's worth being exclusive at Getty? Have you ever sold a clip more than once there? How do the number of sales compare to Pond5/Shutterstock etc.?

I guess it's impossible to truly compare since you don't have the same stuff at the other sites, but you feel that a $200 clip at Pond5 would not get the extra sales needed to make more than a $500-1000 clip at Getty?

@Irina Anosova

this camera and your beautiful lighting make superb videos!

@increasingdifficulty

the Hamburg Airport Hyperlapse was sold three times for example. One buyer purchased it for around $2000.
I think Getty has the big buyers, customers who have money and are willing to spend a lot of it for great quality and unique stuff.

Getty compared to Shutterstock (March):

I had 16 sales (pictures and videos) with Shutterstock and i earned $100. Not a good month.
I had 10 sales (pictures and videos) with Getty and i earned $650. I have to say that this was also not a good month with Getty! ;)

But you're right, it's not that easy to compare since i don't have the same stuff on both sites. All i can say is that you don't need as much sales on Getty compared to Shutterstock or other agencies to get more money.

Pond5? What . is going on with Pond5?
I had no sale there since January!

Best regards,

Martin

Nice, thanks for the info.

May I ask, how come you don't have ALL your stuff at Getty? Do they just request certain clips or how does it work?

Those $2000 sales, is that common or more of a once-in-a-year thing? What would be the average sale price at Getty? More comparable to $200?

I have sold 4k hyperlapses at VB which gives me $200, which is always nice, but too early to tell how often that might happen...

Sold one at Shutterstock at small web resolution and got a measly $6.50... not nice.

No, Getty doesn't request certain clips.
It's up to me. I really want the best of my work on an agency which has the reputation of selling high quality content.
I want the big customers to see my name under high quality content.
That doesn't mean that i'm uploading garbage to the other agencies. But it's not that high end. Or even what i think is high end.

Those $2000 sales does not happen every day, but that happens more often than once in a year.
Over $1000 for video and surprisingly for pictures is not that rare.
I nearly get 2 - 4 $300 - $500 sales every month.
But be also aware that Getty has a system called "Premium Access Time Limited".
If you have bad luck your work will be thrown away for peanuts, like $6,50.

I'm with VB for 3 months but with no success till now... :-(

I see. Always the dilemma whether it's worth being exclusive or not... No way to tell what you might be giving up in comparison to what you'll make.

I see you have some clips as RM, and most RF at Getty. Any reasoning behind that or you're just testing out what works?

I can't influence the RM or RF decision. That's up to Getty itself and me and other contributors often criticize their decision.

I see that Getty is a different beast altogether. And you can't just submit footage right? They have to invite you via Vimeo or your personal website or similar?

Wow, some of these are great!

I'm doing hyperlapses as well, and considering the time and effort needed to pull them off (shooting, stabilizing, editing...), I don't like selling them for a very low price. But they don't even sell so well with a low price, so I'm curious about Getty - can you apply only with a video portfolio?

If you're having great results there, I'd like to put my higher end stuff there as well..

Sometimes I feel like I'm married to the Warp Stabilizer considering the amount of time I spend with it...  :P

Haha and that's not even the worst part! I use LRTimelapse for holy grail transitions and then do extensive edits on the frames in lightroom before exporting them as TIFFs, then remove flickr, then import into AE and stabilize, then export. All that can take a lot of time. With wide lenses the warp stabilizer sometimes doesn't work as well, then I have to do manual tracking...

Hey I've sold a few timelapses over the last year since I started selling stock footage.  Finally executed a a couple Hyperlapses properly but no sales yet.  It's not an easy technique and very time consuming.  Not to mention it's a bit of a risk since you only have to be off on a couple frames to add a nasty wobble to it.  At least that's been my experience, Others seem to have it down pretty good.

Here's my first successful one:

Here's my first successful one:

Very nice and smooth! Bridges are a great help!

I shot a bunch at 16mm on full-frame and had to learn the hard way that stabilizing proved to be problematic for some scenes. Cropping the sides heavily made them usable but of course I lost sharpness... 24-35mm seems to work better.

Yeah, it can take many, many hours (or days) to get a complex hyperlapse ready for upload. Sometimes it just works right away though, which I'm thankful for.

By the way, I now skip the export TIFF step and import the RAW files straight into AE (after LRT/Lightroom) before export. Saves some time and space and I can still work in 16-bit.

It's all a bit Faustian.  ;)
(Really: I have no idea.)

Oh, didn't cross my mind that AE would read the .xmp files properly. Thanks, any shortcut is appreciated!

LooL! :-)

The Warp Stabilizer sometimes works like a charm and sometimes it behaves restive... - like women do! ;)

How to become a Getty contributor?
Well, i was lucky enough to be invited via Vimeo, especially because of this two videos:

Unfortunately this invitation process is no more.
At the risk of getting less sales because of other talented contributors entering Getty, but here is a link where you can submit samples of your work:

Great stuff Martin, Getty were lucky to get you.  Never tried a hyperlapse, might give it a go in the summer.

Try it, you will not regret it! ;)
I really love the possibilities hyperlapse gives you.

Yes, you have to invest in a lot of practice and some software, but it is worth it!
