Title: I make a video of my own clips. Can we promote our work in this way?
Post by: StefanKutsarov on July 24, 2017, 08:35
Hello, everyone.
I'd like to share this my experiment . I decided to make a short video impression included my own footages wich I selling in the agencies. Usually, in such presentations, the authors try to show a wide variety of different types of their footages, but I tried to assemble some similar footages on one theme. Although the clips are not very attractive in themselves, I was surprised myself by the result . I think it gets nice video.

You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR7fzrNkS54 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR7fzrNkS54)

I will be glad to hear your opinion. What do you think, could be it a good way to advertise and increase sales? Thanks.

"Can we promote our work in this way"

Yes, you can.

You did not put any watermark on it, now anybody can download and use it without buying. Be careful next time.

I have a friend who tells me that he gets decent results this way.
Good luck with it and let us know how you do

Hi Stefan, are you still into stock?

Any luck with promoting your footage this way? :)

The music you used for the promotional material....is that yours or did you pay the owner?

I can't see any harm in your effort although I think if you had used a much broader range of clips you might attract more buyers. Ducks, a pond, rain and the mood you created is limiting.

It's missing something. I click on videos because of the title and the thumbnail... I then watch the video, then I probably watch  another video or do something else. I rarely read the video description, and most people probably don't. So if that's the case, anybody watching the video will have no idea that this is a portfolio of your work and that each of the clips within the video is available to license. Needs a more descriptive title, and some kind of intro/outro with an explanation and some kind of call to action.

Yes market your work...but as was pointed out you MUST watermark the footage. Otherwise you are actually just giving it away to unscrupulous editors.

Here is an example of what I do:

Hi,

a) First off - yes, of course you can promote your work whatever way you feel like. If you mean specifically in this forum - well - I don't run it - and you are talking to other photographers/videographers - so not sure how many would buy it. But - I don't see anything wrong with that as long as you don't spam.

b) Second - nice compilation of videos. Even though it was (I'm assuming) all in one shoot - you told a bit of a story, especially at the end with the zooming out of the house. It was a nice relaxing story.

c) I do agree with spacestock though - I would put an intro/your name/etc on it. Because otherwise I have no clue what it is - and to me, it just looks like a 'nice' relaxing video.

d) For watermarking that 'specific' video - meh - I don't think it is really *that* necessary. (Yes, some people will steal clips. But - you only have a short compilation and its too much 'work'). But - if you started uploading 100's of individual clips that were easily downloaded - then yes, I would watermark those.

But, good choice of music, & nice videos!

Kinda creeps me out tbh, the people staring at me without doing anything in combination with the melancholic music.

Haha, me too! ;) It's even more creeping without music, like i watched it the first time. This staring at camera looks really like... - i will kill you! ;)
Anyway, maybe it's suitable for some customers...

Hello everyone and thanks  for your opinion. I really did not expect that this topic will be activated after half a year. :) Of course I can't expect much interest from a single video, but I'm glad there are people who share their opinion and experience here. To make this video took me a little time and money. Unfortunately, I did not increase my sales. I do not know. I have no success for now but if I make more clips ....?
Thanks to everyone who wrote here.

I make edits of some of my filming adventures and put them in a youtube playlist.  Sometimes it's just edited stock footage and sometimes it's a mix of behind the scenes shots and stock footy.  I added a watermark but honestly wouldn't worry about it too much.  Not sure if this has increased sales but it does drive traffic to my website which I eventually planning on building up, and this could increase sales.
