Title: Stock animation newbie
Post by: archibald1221 on May 11, 2015, 08:14
hello,
i've been working with stock vectors before, now trying my luck with stock animation. So far it's terrible - about 100 works - zero sales on SS and pond5. I've started learning After effects just several months ago, and i know that my animations, gently speaking, are far from masterpieces so far and i perfectly understand that microstock is not the area where you get results fast...but still, i didn't expect so bad results. is it usual to not get any sales with more than 100 works online? so far for me it seems like waste of time, not a business.  Could anyone advice something - what am i doing wrong here? I would appreciate constructive critics.

I'm a newbie video contributor myself, and just like you I started out as a vector contributor. I now have a portfolio of 50 videos, but I've had a handful of sales across sites.

Sales are indeed a little scarce compared to vector images, something I already expected; after all, the video market is not as huge as the vector/photo market and also more expensive for buyers. Perhaps animations are sold even less than actual footage.

Looking at your portfolio I'd say the quality is there. If I were you I'd try to diversify your portfolio. You have a lot of looping background animations, but that genre is oversaturated.

I would say you may need to do less with each animation. What you have is very treated and has specific color pallets. Perhaps try putting up some animated elements with less effects/layers and see how they do?

The number is wrong! You'll need more than 148 files,to start earning some decent money at least 1k files is required.
