Topic: Vimeo has a royalty free license on all your videos

(Read 2012 times)

Sean made an interesing blog post about an iStock contributer whose exclusive video application was rejected because they had one video on Vimeo.  iStock said Vimeo has a royalty free license on all videos uploaded to their site.  Sean Locke took a little dive into the terms of service and,.. quite right they were..

Here is the blog post

Thanks leaf.  Carolyn Wright seemed to agree that it looks like a grab as well: http://photoattorney.com/

It's more restrictive.  Just to the youtube business usages (including their promotion and such)...

"However, by submitting User Submissions to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the YouTube Website and YouTube's (and its successors' and affiliates') business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the YouTube Website (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels."

yeah indeed thanks for posting that. I noticed more and more posts recently pointing to vimeo instead of youtube, but with that discovery we need to be cautious!

Yikes!
I am exclusive videographer in istock and i plan to make showreel and upload it to vimeo. So-if i upload any of my clips to vimeo, i am immediately violating my exclusivity contract with istock?
So if i want to expose my showreel where i should upload it without violating my exclusivity contract?
I guess i have to add BIG nasty watermark on the clip aswell.

Why don't you ask this on the istock forum? They are the only ones that can answer.
