I know that this "business" have to be watched in the long term, but I am worried because in the last weeks (6 -7), my sales have been stoped, I started to upload content in octuber to Adobe stock, SS, and pond 5, since that month, I was selling content, the best month was november and dicember with 3-5 videos sold in each plattform, but since January I have just sold 1 in SS and 1 in Adobe, and none in Pond 5... I dont know if this is beacuse I didnt upload too many videos (just 20 or 30 at week, when in october and november I uploaded 200 at week, I started with 0 and now I have 1.500...

I dont know... I am a bit concerned, and thinking if I can do something or just cross the fingers and wait...

My portfolio is this: https://www.pond5.com/artist/silvestregarcia#1/2063

Offtopic: someone knows how to create colletions in pond 5?

Thanks!

From my humble perspective, Silveandalu, it's a lovely portfolio. Very unique. Very diverse. All very well shot.....and while I only viewed a small percentage, every clip looked well priced. And that would be my only suggestion. Selectively and carefully look at the pricing (with Pond5) and try tweaking a bit. But again, be careful. It's well shot and deserves a better than average price list.

Stay positive. Could be nothing more than a minor glitch. I've often said the only real statistic worth paying attention to is "year to year".

I have to chime in here too...

Last year - I only had a handful of clips on videoblocks/storyblocks, and was surprised/shocked/pleased that I made a couple sales...

So I've doing a lot of working over the last six months doing non stop editing from previous footage, etc/shooting/etc, really built a huge sizeable portfolio, etc... expecting my sales to be much higher - but so far, *nothing*...

So... I find that very odd. Maybe it is just something I need to wait and see, not sure - but still very odd to me...

Ive had long spells without a sale at various agencies. Not a stop at all of them at once. If that is the case it might just be the wrong season for your content.

I wouldnt worry too much though. It could be that your clips got exposure in the newest feed and have fallen off since. Ive found it takes six - 12 months for a shoots clips to sell well, as discussed in your other thread.

Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress.

It's the Olympic.  Usually it slows down during Olympic.

Thank you, yes it is not a total stop because I sold in SS, but just 1 video, when the previus month I sold 5, in AS and pond it is a stop :(

But, yes I know and you said me in the other thread that is normal to have to wait 6 or more months to the incomes get up, but as I stareted to sell I thought that the selling had stareted to grow... anyway I will wait hoping to take off.

By the way: nice web, thanks for sharing your experience, and very nice work!!

millions of file , thousand uploaded every day....the level of sales is going less than the number of contributor added every day and file uploaded....it's pretty normal and ill be more and more worst. that's simply like this.
no matter the quality of files.

silveandalu, very interesting, because i'm at the start of my non exclusive work like you. At friday was my first video sale at fotolia. I hope that sales will go up at march/april

PS how you doing on istock/getty? January (my first non exclusive month) was BME in $ on IS/G. In february i got 79 sales already, that is my maximum quantity of sales in a month

Thanks for the kind words about the site and my work - I hope your sales pick back up soon and thanks again for keeping us posted.

P5 has been taking off for me lately since I adjusted my prices down a bit, but I think yours are even more competitive price wise, so not sure that would be the reason. For some reason it does seem to go in waves, some really great months, then almost nothing. I'm not sure if it is luck, season, or maybe something to do with their search algorithms. Hoping to know more as time goes on and my portfolio grows.

It's great to hear that people are enjoying the writing! It's been a lot of fun and really helpful for me to try to track my own progress and stay honest about what I am really getting done / how much I am making for the time I'm spending. Don't want to take the thread off-topic, but appreciate the kind words.

This kind of post it's not singular, and if you will look carefully, as the time passes, more people complain about lower sales on forums. I guess that the market is becoming overcrowded, pond5 is over 10 millions of footage, and every week about 20K are added. I can tell you about my February sales, comparing to 2017- in 2018 I sold only 20% :) . The idea is that a month means nothing, could go wrong, my problem is that in 2017 I sold with 9% less than in 2016.

Almost all of the contributor feel a drop in their sales comparing to last years. Far too many footage on stock market I guess.

....and I'm wondering if there's a slow shift from HD to 4K that many are feeling. If your contributed footage is strictly HD you're limiting sales potential.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience... My worry is more about the time for waiting the sales up, tha about not selling, because I know that a month is a little period of time, and you have to look more time...

I am concerned about the needed time to get the footage get noticed for buyers, and that starts the sells in a "normal" way (if that exits)... I mean, fo knowing more or less how much will be the standards earned monthly... I know that maybe some month will be (300 for example) and others 500 so the midle point will be 400... or maybe is more or less, but some point of regularity in the sells, and not peaks, and nothing... Maybe I will have to wait for a entire year to discover, and for know if the sells will stabilesh

Anyway, I know there are more and more material and more and more competitive (althought... that there are more it doesnt mean there are more competitive, I think that the new material will competite with the old material, for example if I shot a batch about technologie, with laptop for example, it will be more clips, but you have to subtract the old shots with old laptops... So there arent X millions of clips and adding more and more, there are adding and Subtratting)

Sorry if I dont express very well, I am from Spain :) but I try with my english

Sorry to hijack - new to video, but curious how your first video was accepted? Doesn't it have logo prominently displayed on that paddle? I thought just like photos, videos couldn't contain any logos/trademarks/copyrighted content?

You are correct, but it is marked as "Editorial" which makes it all OK.  :)

Clips like that are a pain to make commercial but it can be worth it. After Effects is your friend.

That being said, I think that particular clip would have a 50/50 chance of being accepted as commercial by a few agencies. It's hard to tell what brand it is unless you pause the video.

Spend the extra time in After Effects and you wouldn't have to worry. It can be done in 10 minutes once you've got the hang of it.

Ah, to be honest I didn't even look. Good to know :)

1) Get After Effects
2) Learn After Effects
3) Pay off cost of After Effects in a few years :p

Just get the trial and try it out.

You pay monthly and it's not too bad. In my opinion, a compositing program like After Effects is a must for stock footage. Not necessarily AE, but something that allows you to track, stabilize and animate blur masks.

It's really not much different from perfecting images in Photoshop. Sky replacements, or at least darkening of the sky, is often necessary to make a video really stand out for example.

I think you'd be surprised how many bestselling clips are actually composites or retouched to some degree.  ;)

If you do it well, you can't tell. You just think it looks "wow".
