Since the SelectMenu plugin from Graffix for selecting open paths in an Illustrator document is not available for Illustrator CS4 under Windows (only Mac), I decided to write my own script for extended selections.
It offers some more options than the Graffix plugin, including the possibility to immediately close the open paths.
Since it is a script and not a plugin it should run under future Illustrator versions as well.

The script is free.

You can find it on my site:

http://maps.aridocean.com/scripts_en.php

Please let me know all suggestions (or bugs you might find).

Thank you. It is very generous of you to share. I have not used Illustrator for  while but I may give it a go later. I have Illustrator CS3. I will let you know how it works.

I have McAfee site advisor plugin for firefox and it went balistic when I went to your link.  The site report can be found at this link

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/aridocean.com?version=2&core_ver=1.0&pip=true&premium=false&client_ver=2.9.258&client_type=IEPlugin&suite=true&aff_id=0&locale=en-us&os_ver=6.0.1.0

Something about a link to eusoftnet.com, the report listed above also states that two test downloads contained no adware, virus or spyware.

Anyways I thought you would like to know that.  I downloaded the script anyways, thanks for taking the time to write this, it's nice to finally have this for CS4

Thanks for reporting this, although the report seems to be a bit ridiculous, because eusoftnet.com is just one of the many shareware providers which offer software for download. Anyway, I removed the banner with the link - it isn't worth any hassle. Thanks again.

If you like the script you could do me a favor and post it on the iStock forums as well. I am not allowed to post there, because I am neither a buyer nor a contributor.

Just posted it :)

I saw the post, thanks! (I can read the forums, but not post there).

The text now reads as if you wrote the script, but I don't care, as long as it is useful to somebody  ;)

I have updated the script. You can now select all layers, groups, paths etc. with a blending mode other than 'normal'.

Works great  ;D

Thought I'd let you know, there haven't been many replies on the IS forum, which I think is unusual.  Anyways you don't have to be a contributor or buyer to contribute to the forum.  You do have to sign up to submit illustrations and take a "test' but you do not have to be accepted as an illustrator.

... just in case you want to represent your self there, I'm sure there will be many who are grateful :)

I did that, actually, but I still can't post. Don't know why - it seems silly, but that is how things are...

Having a few problems with this now, the script seems to hang when selecting "stroked paths" sometimes (AI CS4 on a PC). Still a great script, but thought you might want to know.
