I know SS does, but does anyone have the complete list to hand?  Undecided

It may not be complete but:

- Shutterstock
- CanStockphoto
- Fotolia
- Dreamstime
- 123rf
- Veer
- Bigtstock
- Scanstock
- Graphicleftovers
- Depositphotos
- Crestock
- Cutcaster
- Featurepics

Stockfresh and iStock both requires EPS 8

PantherMedia is JPG only

Should cover the most important ones and a few less important Smiley

Oh wow, thanks, I hadn't realized IStock was so isolated in their eps8 policy!
I might actually have to start creating some eps 10s!

Now I need to go off and learn what is supported in eps 10 that wasn't in 8.....

EPS does not accept:
- Usually radial gradient that is not in a perfect circle gets converted to raster.
- Transparency
- Blur
- Drop shadows

This should cover the major ones. Any effect such as blur and drop shadow won't work. No opacity mask either. Work with the basics Wink

Sorry, I know what doesn't work in eps 8, I was wondering what does work in eps 10 that didn't in 8.
I mean, I know basic transparency works, but does transparency in a gradient? etc.

Yes I meant it the other way around.

With 10 you can mostly used any effects you want. Gradients with transparency included.

There is a fine post on the subject on Shutterbuzz: http://buzz.shutterstock.com/bitmapping-101-troubleshooting-eps-files-in-illustrator

Also suggested in the comments below the post, use Extendedscript to check for any raster elements after you save, you will then be able to tell if complex effects are supported or not: http://maps.aridocean.com/scripts_en.php

...Stockfresh and iStock both requires EPS 8...

I would think that SF might want to distinguish themselves from istock a bit by offering EPS10 files.

Or maybe distinguish themselves from everyone else by being one of the only two sites to still offer files compatible for that minority of users who don't use Illustrator?

I think that for Is illustration aren't so important. They prefer photos. I haven't seen so many good illustration there, someone but nothing compared to SS....and they want eps 8 vectors, absurd, I' d understand if they asked for eps 8 and eps 10 too but only eps 8 now, I don't know if they know that we are in 2011...I think that a buyer that want to take some illustration don't make a subscrition on Is, it would be ridiculous. IS is good for people shot, photos but not for illustrations.

Catering to the minority at the expense of the majority isn't a sound business strategy.

IStock used to be the place for great illustration, many of the best guys were exclusive there. I guess falling behind has a lot to do with not taking eps8 (?)

Maybe for a small site that niche might be enough to set them apart? But you're right it seems like eps8 has been left behind in a bigger way than I realized. Didn't know it was only IS and SF not taking eps10 now.

On iStock illustrator forum we still hear the same thing when contributor ask if we can expect EPS10 for 2011. They say that EPS8 is the only format that doesn't require Illustrator (it can be opened with other softwares). So they stick with the compatibility issue for this.

However, they could make it EPS10 and Contributors who wants they file to be as flexible as possible could offer EPS8 as additionnal format so their file might get downloaded buy those few clients who are looking for EPS8 compatibility.

Does anyone know exactly which non-Adobe products and versions have issues opening EPS10 files?

Just wondering how significant the compatibility issue really is.

I'm guessing Corel is the issue? Although looking at the X5 page it sounds like they now offer increased EPS compatibility and AI compatibility up to CS4. So I can't imagine EPS10 files would be that much of a problem in a recent version of CorelDraw. I know Inkscape has EPS10 issues, but I don't see why any stock company would cater to a small number of users on open source software platforms.

I've just seen that they are asking on the IS forum about what software contributors use, might they be thinking about switching as we speak/ type?

Found this here:
http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=182611&page=1

"The problem with 10+ is that After AI8 adobe started writing their own proprietory postscript code which is not compatible with any of the other vector applications out there. So you'd rally be limiting your audience.

A lot of ppl use Corel, Freehand (yay!) inkscape and many other apps, and none of the would be able to work with our illustrations, so in short. Nope no plans at this stage to make any changes to our standards.

Thanks for asking though"

I do agree that iStock bad reputation has nothing to do with bad illustrators or artist. There are definetly incredibly talented artists on iStock. Why not post your portfolio Ellerslie if you are so much more better than them?

I don't tell they aren't good I only tell that aren't so incredible. There are some wonderful artist for vectors and 3D works but there aren't raster a lot. IS isn't interested in raster illustrations. My favourite vectors are on Is, Shutterstock and other agencies too

This is the kind of work that I love:

http://italiano.istockphoto.com/stock-illustration-6014618-branch-of-orchids.php?st=9a66b52

http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-352063p1.html#id=70797664

I do only few vectors, I do raster and I don't think I'm better than someone else. I hate who think so.
Only I try to make better and better and when I look for an ispiration I don't look on IS. That's all.
If you want to feel better, this is one of my vectors:

http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?gallery_id=685879#id=77392153

But really I don't understand why it's a problem if I have a different opinion from you Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

Like Microbius said, don't discredit other people's work would be a good start. I didn't understand you were talking about raster illustration. Yes I think iStock is missing out on those, totally agree about this,
