Title: Freeart[dot]com another illegal website?
Post by: CrFx on May 10, 2018, 02:06
I just came across this website and they have my whole portfolio in there.
The website says "Free 8x10" print of any artwork on the site "
What's going on here? I am shocked.

Maybe they are partner of some agency, but I've never gave permission to offer use for free

If they're using all of peoples' ports, then they don't seem to be getting the images from iStock, as I didn't find any of mine in test searches, thank goodness.

It's a common enough practice to offer free samples or tasters in a lot of businesses. So it's not shady at all.

The real question is do we get paid for the freebies?  Now if we don't that is shady.

There is difference in offering as a sample and offering whole portfolio. I have my entire portfolio in there.

Answer from Canstock:

nFreeart.com is run by our affiliate Fotosearch. On Freeart the only the smallest print size on paper is free for the customers, they only pay for shipping. You would get paid the Paper Print Minimum Commission (e.g. free print offers) of $0.25. https://www.canstockphoto.com/payout_schedule.php (https://www.canstockphoto.com/payout_schedule.php)

Freeart will is marketing your content for print and product sales. You would receive 20% of paper print sales as you always have, and will now also make sales on other physical products (e.g. acrylic, metal, canvas, etc.). These are higher-priced retail items with a 10% royalty, which will result in higher commissions (up to $49.90) than most digital image sales.

It is possible to opt-out of selling your images on Freeart, just keep in mind that you’ll be opting out of the entire site, and will forgo any of the high commission print offerings.

Please confirm if you want to remove your portfolio from Freeart and we will take care of it immediately.

I hope this helps.

Sorina

Yeah... wow.

In some ways - I guess I can "see" how it might be beneficial... but... I guess this is why/where people are getting the $0.02 commissions, etc...

Thanks that's the answer.

CS only, you get 25c commission, another CS cheap program. Another agency trying to grab the last money, from your work, before they go under. Stop supporting the bottom feeders.

Read above, Canstock is giving away your images for free. Two choices. 1) Drop them or 2) take the minimal money from CS and admit you don't mind them giving away your work for free, because you need the pittance from CS sales.

Personally when things like this have happened, I dropped agencies. I don't mind making a little less, because I'm not going to sell out and become a willing victim of this abuse. As long as people keep working and supplying these places, they will keep using and abusing us. You have a choice!
