Title: Would you hire a company to Keyword and upload your images?
Post by: Phillip Dyhr Hobbs on December 07, 2011, 04:38
If there is a company that was to provide keywording for  $2 per image ( including   caption  and description)
and including uploading for an extra $.50

Would you be interested in such a thing?
If not, or if you have questions what would they be?
 Is it too expensive?

I think I prefer my own methods of keywording and adding title and description. A $2.5 seems to me a little too much.

Thankyou so much for your feedback,
How much would you pay?
and how many kw would you expect?

I guess I wouldn't pay anything, like i said, I like to have full control on my images, at least on what depends on me, like adding tags, title and description. As far as I know, Dreamstime offers keywording for$ 0.4 per image but I never used this service. I avoid adding lots of keywords on images, I only add the most relevant.

I think you won't find anyone interested, especially at these prices. The vast majority of contributors do themselves the keywording and uploading. If you're an image factory and you have a team, like Yuri, then you simply assign this task to 1-2 employees.
I have about 8500 images and I didn't find it difficult to do it myself, I certainly won't pay someone to keyword my files. Bandwidth is also cheap nowadays, I just drop them in Filezilla and finish the uploads when I have time at the agencies' websites.

I used someone who was supposed to be very good for a while, but I was disappointed in the results so went back to doing it myself.
It's hard to find someone who understands all the ideas and possible interpretations of an image.
By the time you've explained exactly what you had in mind you may as well keyword it yourself.

I am starting to see a trend :)
I would definately outsource,
My time is important, and so I am making a complete training for my Staff so they can process my own images.
If I were a fulltime photographer, I would sooner be shooting than Kw ;)
However, I am more into Web development and Spending time with my family, So i will leave that to the pro's.
It is so nice of you giuys to respond, I am looking forward to spending more time here talking with you all.

Thankyou once again :)

No.

If you were the chef in a Fugu restaurant, would you ask the fisherman to cut out the liver of a globe fish (http://factsanddetails.com/japan.php?itemid=649&catid=19&subcatid=123)?

I would definately outsource
I would definitively not outsource to someone that can't spell English well. Good luck.

I suspect if you had to research all my editorial images properly to make accurate captions and descriptions, you'd find $2 wasn't enough.
(I seem to be geeky enough to find it very interesting, though I often get sidetracked when researching ...)

No, the reason being I haven't yet come across a company who's sales pitch isn't full of basic grammar mistakes, if they can't even get that right why would I entrust them to keyword my images.

I did try a free trial with a well known company in this field (I'm sure you could all guess who) - despite being in possession of the model releases (with the ethnic origin included on all) for the batch of images I uploaded to them they used the keyword 'hispanic' for every image with a model in (none of the models were hispanic) and on two of the shots that were close up face shots where the model was wearing glasses, they neither included the word "glasses" or "spectacles", plus in general there were between 5-10 spelling mistakes on all their keywords. All this on a trial set of images with the intent of pitching for my business.

So my advice to anybody who has a basic grasp of the English language, don't use any company who's main language isn't English.

If I could afford it, I would hire people to do my cleaning, cooking, ironing, some one to give me a good massage, drive and park my car ... but NOT some one to keyword or submit my images.   ;)

I voted Yes because I would gladly pay someone to submit my images if they could do a good job of it. However, I mostly do vectors and submitting them is more time consuming and complicated than submitting raster images.

The submitter would have to be someone who had submitted their own vectors and actually knew what they were doing. I would pay the right person more than $2 per image. I would still do most of the keywording myself, but I would pay a bonus to the submitter if they added good keywords which I had not thought of. I would like to consider this person something of a partner, or at least a vested outsourcer.

This sounds more like having a good husband. ;-)

My sales pitch isn't full of grammatical errors, and all pw keyworders are fluent english speakers (mostly native too) :)
