Title: More credit card fraud passed on to contributors
Post by: HughStoneIan on October 21, 2009, 23:39
Just read a FT forum entry by Jason Stitt, an Emerald contributor, stating that he just got $400 (that's four hundred $$) deducted from his account for fraudulent credit card sales.  I hear about far more fraud complaints from there than from any other site.  I wonder if they're even addressing the problem at all...

They have definitely taken the most back from any of the sites, my last EL for 20 bucks was taken back too.

I'm surprised this hasn't received more comments... $400???

Has there been any update on this?

No. And for sure you won't hear any comments from Fotolia on this. They can take 70% of your actual sales, but you must bear the loss of sales from stolen pictures completely yourself.

$400 seems like an awful lot.  I occasionally get a return here or there on most of the sites, but if it was such a large amount of money that would be alarming!

I've had a sprinkling of returns (bought a different size typically) over 5+ years, but the only place I ever got a chargeback for credit card fraud was FT. It was never $400 thank heavens.

I complained about it at the time (and at the beginning they didn't even have any accounting for it in the stats; the money just went away) in part because it was many months old. How on earth can it take them such a long time to uncover these problems. And why is it that they're the only site that makes these chargebacks?

Very good questions.

They should really look at their site security if this is becoming a chronic problem. I would think if someone is losing $400 worth of sales then the site is losing $800 or more on the same sales.  Surely this should be enough incentive to tighten up their security??
