Hello,
I have learned lot over the past 10 years! I have shot in hospitals with my drone, out of a hot air ballon, at a fire station and the list goes on and on. My income has not been climbing even as I have produced a lot over the past year and so now I am moving on to other pastures. I have been very blessed to have done stock video as a living for the past 10 years and I have zero regrets!! It has been fun and amazing but I can not sustain my family just doing stock anymore! I have a degree in radiology from Kettering so I am going to focus on medical needs outside of the medical field. I will be selling health books that have impacted my life and I believe people will need in order to stay healthy in the future! I will still dabble in stock here and there but am shifting my focus now to health and wellness. Thanks to all here for the encouragement and discouragement :-) the forum can be a wild place. I have spent the most amazing 10 years with my family doing stock!!! Good luck to those who are in it full-time still and a final and happy farewell to all of you! Crafted Shutter aka jjneff

You know I have often wondered why I don't see stock companies like ShutterStock advertise on TV. Well I am happy to say I love to
see Adobe Stock being advertised on major Networks!!!

I have been looking for a structure like this, I have been asked to apply and have applied. This is the business model of the future for sure. Now I get $3.50 per sale no matter what! I am tired of getting pennies! Now you say how do they make their money? Subscriptions of course, You pay a yearly subscription then you can purchase images at a reduced cost while the artist gets 100% you goal as a business is to keep your subscribers so the larger and better the collection the more likely that will happen. The artist is happy the buyer is happy and the business is happy! I love videoblocks and it is growing month over month, I hope to see it explode as each sale I make either $47.00 or $197.00 works for me! Once accepted to GraphicStock I will not be loading images to anyone else, I find it a waste of time mostly and no reason I can't make a few bucks from each sale!!

So I looked at my Nov. earnings from Getty in the Portal before they turned it off. I had earnings of $1,122.00 and no red returns on that statement! I just got an email from them that said that $1020.00 are returns so now I owe them $1020.00 and they will deduct that from my future earnings. I can not go back and pull that text file to prove it so I am just shafted. These were Premium Access sales. So 98% of all my Getty PA sales are returns for the month of Nov. 2016!

Hello, This may be pie in the sky. What I am looking for is a script or software to load my batch of video files from dropbox to shutterstock, Pond5...etc via ftp. I want to use their upload bandwidth not my own for a faster upload. Is this possible? I don't need keywording my upload speed is relatively slow.

I have a friend who is in college for graphic arts. I do not know the best sites for graphic artist. I would like to steer her towards the upper end like Stocksy for photos. Any suggestions on where to make the best money online for her? Thanx!

I have a drone and use it all the time for stock. I stay below 400ft. don't fly over large crowds, stay away from airports and the list goes on. Dummies like this http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/04/us/us-open-tennis-drone-arrest/index.html are making a mess for those of us who use them properly. For stock if I use it with models they are aware and it is very controlled. Just please use some common sense if you have a drone. Flying over Niagara Falls was not a risk to anyone but my drone!!

Winter dullness set in in early March so we decided to head for the Keys. I made up my mind this year that I was going to turn it into a full scale stock production and my family would be the actors. Four days before we were supposed to go my wife spiked a fever at 102.5 for 3 days straight then it went down a bit but she still felt miserable. We put off the vacation for a few days and then she said lets just go. She was still running a fever so I drove the 14 hours with her and the two boys which were sick as well. Needless to say we were all tired but I am undaunted to get the footage I wanted. They were really good sports and walked miles for me to get to where I wanted to shoot. They only rebeled a little so I had to back off of my aggressive shooting schedule. I am blessed to have a loving and beautiful family. I did a lot of planning for this trip and we all worked hard. With people increasingly embracing mobile access to execute work-related tasks, the iOS apps allow creative storytellers to pursue their ideas wherever they are. The apps enable users to search, curate and share millions of rich conceptual and editorial images available at iStock and Getty, and delve into the historic Getty Images photo archive.
These apps have been built with the busy creative and media professionals in mind; each of the app interfaces provides a beautiful, modern look and feel with robust usability.
While users cannot license images directly from the apps, weve added and improved features to make it easy for them to find and share images for projects wherever and whenever then want. Those features include:
Search: Users can easily search millions of creative, editorial and archival images.
Save: Tapping and holding allows users to add an image to their most recently created or updated lightbox.
Share: The apps allow for seamless sharing of lightboxes and single or multiple images with colleagues or clients. Users of the Getty Images app can access embed codes and share imagery in their blogs, when used for a non-commercial purpose.
Size: On iPad, the details of an image can be viewed with a simple pinch and zoom.

Stock Image Subscription
Were excited to introduce image subscriptions, a new way to license photos and illustrations on iStock. Based on the Thinkstock subscription product that has been one of the fastest growing parts of our business since its launch, our new image subscriptions allow us to better serve customers with high volume licensing needs.
And it's clear that there are a lot of customers who love the ease and simplicity of the subscription model. Combining the right subscription offering with the amazing content at iStock will benefit both customers and contributors, so that's exactly what we're planning to do.
Some of you may know that we already have a subscription offering on iStock based on credits. The added complexity of credit pricing makes this subscription less friendly to new customers who are looking for a simple solution for their high volume licensing needs. When we launch the new subscription offering we will no longer promote the existing credit subscription on our website, and new iStock subscription customers will only be able to purchase this new image subscription.
For the time being, customers who have an active Credit Subscription will be able to keep using their existing subscription.
What is being offered in the new subscription model?
Clients will be able to choose between a Monthly and Annual Image Subscription, which are offered in two tiers. One tier gives customers access to the Main collection only, and the other gives access to the Main, Signature, and Signature+ collections. Image Subscriptions include Photos and Illustration only (excluding Vetta).
In order to make sure that our Exclusive Contributors can adequately participate in both Image Subscription tiers, we will be moving some of the more basic images that are underperforming in Signature, to Main. We think they will compete more effectively that way and have the added benefit of exposure to new customers through Image Subscription. We want to be sure our exclusive contributors have an opportunity to participate in the full range of products we offer at iStock.
What is the difference between the current credit subscription model and the new image subscription model?
The credit-based subscription model we launched in 2008 includes access to all of our files and provides clients with a limited number of credits to use each day. These credits can be used to purchase any file on iStock, and expire daily, at midnight MST.
Our new Image Subscription model allows our customers to download a specific number of Photos or Illustrations, of any size, monthly, from our Main, Signature, and Signature+ collections, depending on the tier.
What does this mean for contributors?
When someone licenses your content using an Image Subscription, we pay a flat royalty for each file based on your exclusivity and the collection your file belongs to, with a royalty of $0.28 for non-exclusive contributors and a minimum of $0.34 for exclusive contributors.
Here is a full breakdown of the Royalty Rates for Image Subscriptions:
Non-exclusive: All Collections: $0.28/download
Main (exclusive): $0.34/download
Signature (exclusive): $0.75/download
Signature+ (exclusive): $2.50/download
Weve made an adjustment to the Royalty Rate Schedule to reflect the new Image Subscription offering that will be effective when we launch Image Subscriptions. You will notice a new tab between Flash and the Partner Program.
Royalties will be reported monthly, not in real time. Initially we will be reporting these royalties under the Partner Program.
The existing Credit Subscription royalties are unaffected by this change. Any downloads made under Credit Subscription shall continue to pay royalties at the rates set out in the photo/illustration tab of the rate schedule.
How does the licensing work?
All files licensed under the new Image Subscription fall under our Standard License Agreement. One difference for subscription licenses vs. images licensed with credits or cash is that customers are required to use the images they download within the term of their subscription. If they dont use the image, the right to use that image terminates when the subscription terminates. For example, if a customer has a one-month subscription, they must use the images they download within that same month in order to continue using that image following the end of the subscription term.
Will Image Subscription downloads go toward contributor Redeemed Credit totals?
No. Image Subscription downloads arent purchased with credits so we will not be calculating RCs with these downloads.
Our intent is to provide customers with as many purchase options as possible to keep existing customers engaged with iStock and to attract new customers, leaving no reason for them to look elsewhere for the right content and workflow. Our new Image Subscription offering will allow us to accommodate all of our customers purchase preferences be they cash sales, credits, or subscription or in many cases, a combination of one or more options.
We will be launching Image Subscriptions in early April 2014.
