Not much. Been there twice it's so boring place to be (sterile). There are many more interesting places to visit in Europe than Switzerland. However wish you nice trip there.

I dont know Lausanne, but I was in Zurich, Basel and Montreux and have always found it exciting to be in places where I have never been before and found plenty of picture locations just walking around. Also if you have a chance you can shoot magnificient landscapes in the Alps or in the countrysides.
I have no specific recommendations for stock, this will be up to you, but want to reassure that you will find motives from authentic to modern. Let us know when you are back!

Totally agree, there is more than enough to shoot!

Is it just me or is this really kind of a presumptuous question?  I guess a function of this forum is to help newbies get on in Microstock. But recommendations for what to shoot in certain locations so someone can make images that compete for sales directly with one's own images?

Places to eat, places to stay, ok. But places to shoot?  I don't think so.

Have a nice trip and take some good pictures but do your own research.

Not always a friendly place here I guess!  I was watching Topgear a few nights ago and they were travelling through Switzerland. The landscape was truly breathtaking. Its was the episode where they had to push the Aston Martin off a ferry in Italy I believe, before going on to Switzerland. I would look up this place for sure.

if you dont want to give away your 'secrets' that's your choice - but i think the question is not only reasonable, but EXACTLY the sort of advice i look for in a community / forum like MSG

i'm more than happy to tell people what's of interest here in seattle http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/Best-way-to-see-Seattle-is-to-leave-it  and appreciate other folks here giving advice on what to see and do

switzerland is also one of my less favorite places in europe - i much prefer france & italy.

however, if you go to Lausanne, be sure to go to the Museum Art Brut [outsider art] , just a short walk from the train station

http://switzerland.isyours.com/e/guide/lausanne/artbrut.htmlhe

quotess from that page "This quite unique collection is devoted to whats been called outsider art, the creative output of ordinary people with no artistic training at all often loners, psychotics or the criminally insane who for some reason suddenly began making their own art, on many occasions in middle or old age"

some of the art is truly amazing - among them

"The gallery displays art by Henry Darger, a hospital porter in Chicago, who died alone, an old man unknown by his neighbours; it was only after his death that his 19,000-page novel, illustrated with dozens of detailed watercolours up to three metres long, came to light."

there was also a show devoted to Darger here in Seattle a few years back - his work is a cross between what some might call mild kiddie porn and pre-raphaelite science fiction

it's one of the most unusual and visually stimulating museums i've visited

we were in Geneva a coupla weeks ago - it has several interesting museums including the Red Cross museum, Patek Phillippe museum of watch making http://www.patek.com/contents/default/en/museum.html, and the Ariana Glass museum which has an astonishing collection - we wenyt to see its special exhibit of Venetian glass, but the entire museum is worth it

We spent 3 days in Lausanne.  I took lots of travel shots and sent a dozen or so to iStock, one of which has sold a few times.
I was not shooting editorial at the time, but that would be my suggestion.
Check out the attachment, this is in a church in Lausanne.  It seems the woman is unhappy with about what she is looking at.

What luck, I just sold an extended license for a Lausanne photo this morning for $42.  Rooftops, church spire, lake and French mountains beyond.  It's like I always say, I can never predict what will sell, and no longer try.  Lets keep talking, I'm not superstitious, but this was a nice coincidence.

I traveled in Switzerland in the early 80s.  I was covering motorcycle races but did take opportunity for some landscape/travel photography.  My travels were close to French/German/Swiss border -- Payerne.  May have to look back through the old slides for something to scan.  Beautiful Country!!!

My scanned motocross slides do quite well in microstock (editorial).

Hi Cascoly,

Thanks so much for your reply and your concept about Fred.  You know sometimes in the world you find some selfish person, but this life is a balance.  We had to accept them and share with them.

Thanks so much to everybody giving me those valuable tips i really appreciate it.

Have a very good day all.

David.

If you stay in the city, visit at least the old city with the cathedral and the natural history museum as well as lake Leman shore in Ouchy where you will find the Olympic Museum.

Switzerland is however a small country and Alps are just 1h away by train or car and Chillon Castle is on the way and is worth a visit. Bern or Fribourg are also nice cities about 1h away from Lausanne and Geneva is even closer (but I don't like this city that much myself). The medieval city of Gruyres with its castle and the H.R.Giger museum is also woth a visit if you go to Fribourg or Bern: a good place to eat a"meringues double-crme" after a "fondue au fromage moiti-moiti" ;D

For stock, the best thing to shoot would be model released lifestyle or business imagery with local backdrops. Not sure how well that's going to fit in to the travel plans though.

Uf... maybe it is not the perfect plan on vacations. :)
When I'm on a trip like that I'm with the camera like a chinese with a machine gun, shooting every thing that attracts my attention. Fortunately, the editorial collections now permit us to sell photos of lifestyles without releasing.
