I haven't tried out this plugin yet, but I'm pretty excited they (woothemes) finally launched their photo plug-in.
http://www.woothemes.com/photography/

I've used woocommerce a lot and it is very reliable and feature rich (and easy to upgrade - unlike ktools) but things would have to work pretty automagically for the photography plug-in to work for stock photos, but it looks promising so far.

If you give it a try - please share your thoughts / experiences.

I can recommend Graph Paper Press WP themes combined with their Sell Media plug-in at newbielink:https://graphpaperpress.com/. [nonactive]

I used it to build my site and it is possible to sell direct footage files up to 4K (over 1GB file-size) and make them instantly downloadable. Have a look at newbielink:http://www.londontimelapse.co.uk [nonactive].

Doesn't look like it would be very helpful for selling stock photography.  Doesn't import keywords or offer digital downloads.   BUT if you are looking to sell prints of weddings or events it would be worth a try.  It seems a little overpriced ($70) for the little you get compared to say Graph Paper Press.  It is a plugin, so you do still need a theme.

I had a quick look, and in addition to the things Pixart mentioned, it appears you also need to pay for one (or more) of the payment gateways - a bunch of those are $79 each. Looking at the list of payment gateway options, it's pretty overwhelming - I shop online a lot and most of those I have never heard of. I'm not sure how I'd choose a provider, but you'd (ideally) want to be able to take PayPal and Moneybookers and amazon payments would be a plus.

Given the focus around delivering prints, I think trying to shoehorn stock licensing into it wouldn't appeal to me (long term, it'd be nice to have something to migrate my site to when Symbiostock stops working, which eventually I'm sure will happen). Having something from a major platform (WooCommerce on WordPress) is definitely appealing

You often don't see the payment gateway attached to a store.

Paypal payment plug-in is free with woocommerce.  I also have braintree payment for processing credit cards.. but on the front end you don't see anything to do with braintree - it's just who handles the credit card transactions on the back end.

agreed though- the plugins do add up.

How's Google like your site? I have a GPP/SM site too and only about 10% of the images have been indexed so I have almost no traffic. I've tried changing plugins for sitemap, SEO, and no improvement.

I also have a Photodeck and Photoshelter site which both are indexed decently and get good traffic so I'm thinking Google may not like the Sell Media catalog.

The discussion of what do I need made me contact and ask them. If there's a free way to take payments, I'd do that. Let me ad, from the other discussion, self hosted or selling on my own. If a site broke even, I'd call that a success. There's always room to improve. If it loses money, I would be unhappy.

Thank you for contacting WooThemes! I am happy to help you out. :)

So to set something like that up, you're going to need the following:

    Self hosted WordPress installation.
    A theme: http://www.woothemes.com/product-category/themes/
    WooCommerce: http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/
    Photography: http://www.woothemes.com/products/woocommerce-photography/
Payment Gateway to collect payments. We have core WC payment gateways and premium ones.

There it is. I don't know what that means in costs. I already have five websites, (earning nothing) so that's not going to be a new expense.  :)

I'll wait and watch for someone here to test it. I'm not that good at WP and not in a hurry. What I want to put up is not serious. It would be some red/blue 3D, maybe some old B&W shots, just things that interest me and not high on the market demands.

That means that it would cost minimum $79.

The woocommerce plug-in is free.  They make their money on selling extensions like the photo plugin.

The cost breakdown is this
Woocommerce - free
Theme - free (or cost if you buy one)
payment gateway - paypal is free (or cost if you want to accept other payment types)
photo plugin - $79 for the first year then $40/year after that to stay updated.  Free if you never update.
