Since it appears credit sales is going extinct,  next thing I expect is RC to go away and a flat % for indies and another for exclusive on any last credit sales that trikles in.

Now I can see it here in the USA, I am located in SC. It's so nice to be shafted, gives me a warm tingly feeling.  My credit sales were actually picking up! make $7 to $8 per sale. Fingers crossed they don't sale video packs!!!!

It's not her - Dawn Airey to the role of Chief Executive Officer, with effect from October 12, 2015.

Can it get any worse?

Of course it can. Eventually iStock will be charging us to host our ports and paying customers to use our images.

This is a scam and an insult to exclusive contributors. It makes no sense to remain exclusive. Shame on stock/getty

How long will it take for the financial effects of this to be fully felt by contributors? This will help in timing my exit from being exclusive.

How can they call it subscription? They are selling credits packs and calling it "subscription" in order to steal the money from their own contributors? How can one remain exclusive of these kind of con artists? They must be desperate for cash what means that they must be going out of business soon.

I'm absolutely as upset about this as everyone else. I'm sure my income, which has already been halved in the last year or so, is going to take an even bigger hit now.

But this also hurts iStock's bottom line.  Let's say there's a buyer who would buy 60 credits, enough for 20 Signature files (I'm exclusive, but I suspect the math works similarly for Essential files). They'd pay $520, and iStock would get (in my case) 70% of that, or $364. The equivalent monthly sub gives the buyer 25 Sig files, and they pay only $150. Even if iStock kept 100%, they'd still be making about 40% of what they would have made.

So it seems like a desperate move by iStock to grab subscribers, at any cost. And that cost will be very steep, indeed.

To me, this suggests that they are hemorrhaging buyers and these prices are an attempt to get the volume of sales back up. You only make more with the old pricing if you're actually selling any/many.

Using your example above, if there used to be 100 buyers of the  60 credit packs, netting iStock $36,400, but now there are only 20 buyers ($7,280), they may think that if they could get back the 100 buyers at $135 each (let's say they only keep 90%) - $13,500 - they're nearly doubling their take.

Maybe they are trying to secure money from Investors?

The kind of "story " where it is all about "growth"?

Maybe they can also attribute some fictional value to every new subscriber just like all the files are valued as "assets " even though they don't own anything?

I really don't understand getty logic, they seem to run their high end getty marketplace quite well, but they never figured out what to do with istock.

Every year they try something new hoping it will somehow work, but there is no vision.

iStock has just made my life easier. With this new "subs" deal I no longer feel any reason to upload anything to them. I stopped uploading video over a year ago and now I can leave them off my upload list for stills as well.

True. Now read this one http://app.e.gettyimages.com/e/es?s=2768&e=1545350&elq=3cd44f245c894c049d0940ffd7f99f88&elqaid=23015&elqat=1&elqTrackId=e26a337a7bfa45e49c2e376e748508e1 and see if you can find the word iStock in it?

I hope she does see the problems and makes some changes that encourage us to stay and contribute.

Here's hope it can only get better?

i posted this in another thread, i will also in this

we need action for all contributors, like was for dpc.

why are the Russians so quiet?

I haven't sent them anything new in months.  This is the last straw for me. I just deactivated 50 of my best and will remove more each day until they are only left with very old/less popular files.  I'm sure they couldn't care less, but it makes me feel better.  My message to them on "reason for deactivating"....

New $40 "subs" package = 7% commission. As if 16% wasn't insulting enough. No Thanks.

170 deactivated, 1260 to go.  Why would any buyer in their right mind pay Shutterstock $49 for 5 files when they can pay IStock $40 and get those 5 plus 5 more?  I realize that everyone's situation is different, but my decision is easy.  Shutterstock On-Demand and Single downloads are a huge portion of my income and I have no choice but to protect the value of these files from greedy bass turds like IS.

Why not just contact them and close your account, if that's your intention? That way you'll get your last pay, even if it's less than $100.

There's about 2-300 I'm not going to deactivate that have never sold on SS.  You never know, IS could get sold to someone not quite so greedy someday.  Not likely, but with just leaving my 10-yr-old stinkeroos, I'm not risking much to wait and see.
