When I submit images to SS and 123RF, I normally submit minimum possible size as majority of the sales are coming from subs and they pay same royalties regardless of the size. Do you think it's worth to submit highest resolution images to Adobe/FT?

I noticed that sub-royalties are not fixed on FT, anyone understand how it is decided? (mostly I get 0.25 credits, but sometimes more)

So, if I understand correctly, you only upload minimum required size of photo and deprive yourself from making money from XL credit sales?
Or maybe, if a buyer wants your photo (even if sub sale) and sees he can't get max. size, downloads photo from another contributor which has max. size?

Neither of these things happen in the real world. XL sales are -- outside of subs -- extremely rare. And sub buyers just take the larges available size, they rarely seem to care what that size is.

On some sites the available sizes don't even change with the upload size. Larger sizes just get interpolated.

I got only few XL (or larger) credit sales, but many many more XL (or larger) sub sales.

(I had 4 credit sales in this month and non of them are XL (or larger).)

How can you have XL sale, if you upload minimum required size? I checked one of my photo, size 3000 x 1993px and the maximum size one can buy is L.

So far, I uploaded highest resolution to FT. That's why I'm asking whether it's worth to do so.... because most of XL sales are subs only  :(

Aha, sorry. Well, the way I see it, if you upload minimum required size, you don't even give yourself a chance to have XL sales. At the sime time, I don't see what you gain, if you submit only minimum size files.

It hurts when I see someone download XXL size and I just get 0.25  :'(

So far, I've made 2/3rds this month on Canva what I've made on FT.

I recommend you post the full resolution file for a couple of reasons. As mentioned, the credits sales at Fotolia become more expensive the larger the file. What I think is possibly more important however is that customers search based on the size of the image and will not purchase a file if it is not large enough for their project. I can't tell you how many times I've spoken with customers asking for larger versions of a file. When I tell them there isn't one available, they move on and find one that fits their specifications.

If you upload at too low a resolution you could be costing yourself.

Thanks for  your explanation Mat.

One more thing. Can you explain how FT decide sub-royalties? (mostly I get 0.25 credits, but sometimes more, even 3.30)

You are paid a 33% royalty based on the price paid per image. This price varies in different subscriptions at both Adobe Stock and Fotolia. The $3.30 rate you are seeing comes from individual sales at Adobe Stock. The cost per image is $9.99 so you receive 33% of that. On the other end of the spectrum, with larger sized subscriptions, the cost per image gets lower. There is a minimum rate that is set by your Fotolia rank that your payment will never drop below.

More information can be read here: https://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Royalties

Kind regards,

Mat

I don't agree.  Aside from one EL this calendar year, the most I have earned this calendar year is $2.50.  The only XXL's they can seem sell are subs.
