Editorial photos - is there a list of microstock sites that accept them?

Dreamstime (and Featurepics?) are the only sites I belong to that I know accept editorial pix.

(I also contribute to Fotolia, LuckyOliver, 123rf, BigStockPhoto, Stockxpert, SnapVillage, and 1 or 2 others.  I'm not on Shutterstock or iStockphoto yet.)   smiles - ann

If I recall Alamy's recent financial results video correctly (warning - old brain and unreliable memory) they said that 70% of their sales are editorial.  Yes, that's 70%.

They sold 25 million of pics last year and have a five year target of selling 100 million annually.

Shutterstock accept editorial photos, as does Scanstock and Featurepics. Most macros do as well. I don't think Snapvillain does though.

Sharpshot, hatman12, and epixx, thank you so much for your helpful information.  Its certainly interesting that about 70%  of Alamys sales are editorial!

I have a follow-up question that I'll try here, rather than immediately start a new post.

At featurepics, I noticed there's an option to submit photo as Royalty Free Editorial or Rights Managed Editorial.  Are there significant reasons to choose one over the other?

For editorial, I usually choose Rights Managed. The reason is one or both of the following:

- the image is unique in one or more ways

- the image contains people or property without releases.

In both cases, I want maximum control over the image. Also, some publications, particularly bigger ones, will only buy photos that are RM.

Thank you epixx, that's very helpful - Ann
