It seems to me that when Stocksites are cheating with downloads and payouts, it must be (secret) policy and not individual actions of a few persons. You can not hide that for a very long time!
For example: Last week I got the I-stock newsletter and they told that they have 65.000 contributing photographers now! How many of them will stay with I-stock if such things about this site should be told? Some would stay for the profit, even when they know they are cheated, but a lot will leave, I guess.
Then they have lost their good name, a lot of contributors and more money they could ever get with cheating their contributors!
It seems to me that it is not worth the risk.(Not talking about the fact that we ought to be true and honest! If we are not, there is no future for our children.)
This is about one of the biggest sites. When small stocksites should do such things and people become to know about that, how many will stay with them or join them? They will never be trusted again!
Every well thinking person in the world knows that it is difficult to build up a good name and easy to loose it. And when you loose it, you can never get it back!

Some great points made - and I agree with the previous post that in general, business is kept honest through it's customers - if they cheat and lie, people will not use that business. But in an industry like microstock where thousands of people from all parts of the world are involved, and you get to hide behind a website it is much easier to get away with less than satisfactory behavior. For example, take a look at the Crestock forums - people are fighting to get paid for months, and their review process is unbearable... People continue to contribute and the site lives on. I am not suggesting Crestock is trying to cheat anybody, but compared to the other sites they run a very sloppy shop - yet they still have suppliers and customers.

Maybe the system does work, and the cream rises to the top. The big six are trustworthy sites with good reputations that they want to hang onto, and by existing they make it harder for smaller shops to get into the market. Newcomers certainly won't get anywhere if they are unethical - but with short-term goals they might make a few bucks trying.

Anyway - I am not saying I suspect any sites of deliberate cheating or fraud when I started this post - I am just asking the question for the purpose of discussion.

Greed is what has put the world into this economic crisis. This might be another argument in favor of an organized microstock union or group that can do some work to ensure everybody is ethical and honest.

Every period of economic expansion is followed by a period of economic contraction. It seem the majority alway forgets what Newton said, " What goes up must come down!"

The problem is unethical and dishonest behavior! We should all want more and better! Too many socialist think greed is to want more than your neighbor. We do not need a union or socialist, that was tried and failed. It was called the USSR.

Yeah that's right all unions have failed, the USSR collasped therefore the local unions representing workers has also failed. Failed by ensuring minimum wages, safety standards and holidays so they can spend time with their families. Hey I agree unions aren't perfect, aren't suitable for everybody or situation. I understand your point but claiming the failure of the USSR is anyway related to a microstock union is a bit far fetched.

I think if you called it an "association" rather than a "union" alot of people would have different opions.

thanks for that QUERTY! - "union" is a word meaning to join or associate for a common purpose. It does not mean socialism or communism. Call it what you want - an organized voice always speaks louder than a single voice.
