mevans has just reached black diamond status on istock. That's two 3D artists in that rare group now (the other is alexsl). Their styles are totally different, but obviously 3D can take you a long way (if you're good enough of course).

There's not full of jobs in the 3D world as I heard. Much are video games and video is involved. Though the very clean and high resolution 3D images are worthy in microstock.

I downloaded the trials of many 3D software during the last year but I didn't achieved even a simple house. Without courses or a tutor, it's kind of a complicated technic to learn. Photoshop is way easier.

Maybe 3D cameras will come shortly as there is already 3D HD television on the Japanease market. Maybe even photoshop could follow. Until then, mastering 3D give the liberty to create aproximatively any images you want with a perfection that photography mostly not achieve.

No surprise about a 3D artist being diamond, for sure

Vonkara you seem to be confusing 3D and 3D. The 3D in 3D modelling has nothing to do with the 3D in 3D cameras and movies. 3D modelling is not about stereo imaging.

Browsing mevans portfolio, his work really is incredible - it blows my mind that his renders aren't actual photos. I can't even imagine how much time and effort he must put in to them.

The guy definitely deserves his black diamond status!

+1. Incredible portfolio. I'd have thought many of those renders were simply too good and costly in time to produce for microstock but it does seem to be working for him

Just pointing out things. I know modeling will always need a sofware

In very round numbers alexsl added 2000 new images and had 68,000 downloads in the last year. Sounds like fair returns for a fair amount of work.  :) mevans has added less new, maybe 200, but also has videos and 50,000 downloads in a year. Pretty good no matter how they do it. Those aren't photos of paint brushes, babies, models or asparagus?
