Title: 5c Royalty at Istock?
Post by: gostwyck on June 13, 2010, 06:10
I just had a 5c royalty at Istock. Yes, just five f**king cents. How is this possible? It was pay-as-you go for XS size. Even in the dark, dank days of 2004 the lowest commission I ever got was 10c.

No, you can't opt out of PAYG.

Contact support to get them to clarify.  1 credit at $.25 is really low ($.05 royalty).

That would be insane (see below):

However, looking at the 'how to buy stock' page, it says:
Pay-as-you-go: credits as low as 95c.
Subscriptions: credits as low as 24c.
Corporate Accounts (PAYG, presumably): credits as low as 29c.
I guess you could have got someone with an old corporate account, or like Sean suggests, it's a mistake.

Keep in mind those are subscription costs for the buyer.  Contributor payouts are at $.95 per credit (why IS has the best sub program).

Wow, I hope that it's a mistake and not some new thing that will become the norm.

This marks the first and only time I've actually seen proof that a license was purchased for 25c.

So what we have now is micro-micro stock. Is that like 10 to the -12? That would be Pico-stock ;)

That is completely bizarre.  I'm glad you even caught it.  I only rarely bother looking to see what images sold for anymore because you have to click on the image download to see.

Please update us when you get an answer from support.  It would be good to know if this is a mistake or something we should expect to see more of.

It will become something like pull tabs from pop cans.  For every 100 images of yours that are sold by the agency,  your designated charity gets 10 cents.   You won't make any money, but you'll be saving the rain forest.

Looks like that one is from the darker, danker days of 2002. You just got a nickel's worth of history (small comfort, I know). Those ancient credits do not have an expiration date, and float up from the depths every now and then.

Thanks Rob, I figured it was probably something like that. I only actually noticed it because it was the first sale for the image in question.

Cheers.

That's it.  I still have a few that I never used.

Good to know it's not the new and improved commission structure from IS.
