Doesn't IS delete images over one year old that had no sales?  I have some getting to this situation this month (I'm celebrating my first year there) and I started a lightbox to see if they get visibility, and when searching for other images to put there I noticed many from 2005 in this situation (no dlds) and yet they haven't been deleted.

Regards,
Adelaide

PS: BTW, if you want to see the lightbox - maybe it helps to have many views - it's here:

Hi Adelaide:

I believe it was DT that was trying to implement this, not iS.

iS did the dollar bin thing where they pulled a bunch of images that they felt were not up to speed and offered them for a buck.

I may be wrong, but I think this deletion came up when the dollar bin was about to be implemented.  If I remember it right, dollar bin images were images that sold in the past, but not for the past 12 months, and had technical issues under the current standards.  I have to look in IS forum, but I remember they saying (even before the dollar bin came to life) that non-selling images older than a year were deleted.

In DT, a photographer will have the choice of giving them to the free download area, isn't it?

Adelaide

that sounds right.

with istock you also have the choice of letting it go to the dollar pile, or just deleted all together (speaking from experience  ;))

Leaf,

Do they let an image with no sales at all be moved to the dollar bin?  I remember some people asked for that, but it wasn't in their plans as far as I followed the thread.

Anyway, I can't login to IS tonight for some reason.  :/

Adelaide

yep, they go to the $ bin.  here is a quote from the email

Quote
Dear tyler (leaf),

Standards at iStockphoto are always evolving. Our team of editors has been examining the collection and have decided that your image no longer meets our current standards. We understand that no one wants to lose an image from their portfolio, but we think that the rest of your work is much better.

You have two options. You may deactivate the image now. Or you may leave it in our Dollar Bin. The Dollar Bin is a collection of images with similar legacy quality issues. Every file in the Bin is available for one credit at any size. Images remain in the bin for four weeks after their last download, at which point they are automatically deactivated. It's a way of giving the image a last chance before finally removing it.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please address them to [email protected]

Go here if you like to deactivate your image:

Leaf,

The message doesn't make it clear that the image is one with no sales at all.

I think this is the original thread, but with 125 msgs I won't read it again...

yeah that's true.  Perhaps there is no hard and fast rule, but generally speaking it is an image that is VERY little downloaded.  Bascially none, or no downloads within the last year.  They are not going to remove a good selling image.

Yes, you can have a file moved to the dollar bin that doesn't have a download. That doesn't mean that every file that had no downloads durning the previous year is moved to the dollar bin. If the file doesn't meet current upload standards and hasn't been downloaded in the last year, then it can be moved to the dollar bin. Otherwise it is left alone. Only files that have been in the dollar bin for a month without a download are deleted. This is all to my knowledge, if I'm wrong feel free to correct me.
