I have total of 21 referrals on IS. 3 of them signed up today. Maybe we all should bring new buyers instead of talking about low sales. I wish we all could have at least 10 referrals..

Bring new customer and get 10$? IS keep 80% from each sale - with this money they can find customers by them self.

They are working on it, I'm sure. But we could also try. I didn't pay a single dollar for marketing. My website is also on free server.

Weird. In my two years with iStockphoto, I've never had a single referral from them. It's on my website and elsewhere. Oh well.

I have 32 referrals. Not sure why I have so many when I don't have a website pointing to istock but I do sometimes post on a design forum and left the link in my signature. The last time I checked, over 50% of my referrals were buyers, I found some of my photos being used on their sites.

I've had 4 referrals, and none of them are people I know. I suppose they came from my photo site, although this is not a very popular one....

In 4 years I have only had two referrals credited to me. They are both people I don't know. Probably through google search or vox.

OTOH I have recommended istock to many buyers quite a few of whom signed up, but they never bothered to do so through my link. Kind of a bummer.

But istock's referral bonus is among the worst of any site that does referrals. I would rather refer to DT or SS where the referring contributor gets better rewarded.

All of them are buyers. You don't get the bonus until they purchase credits.

Yes, all of them are buyers. On SS I have 14 referrals, and all of them are contributors. But only 4 of them are active submitters. It's more expensive to buy subs package on SS than to buy a package on IS. I guess that's why I don't have buyers among referrals on SS.

You'll get mostly referrals by starting a blog.

Thank you Goldenangel. I have to be honest and say that I am not sure from where these referrals are coming. I wrote to all of them to find out where they found my referral links, because I would like to put accent on that specific website, but none of them answered. I guess it's because they are buyers and they don't spend much time on the site.

I have posted my links on different forums and websites and I know that I have quite a few visits but so far I only have one IS referral. I got 14 SS referrals but only one of them has first 7 pictures online and even he did not add more pictures later. So far I earned 15 cents from 14 referrals on SS

There have been threads on IS forums mentioning how referrals don't work for some members and it seems that they are looking into it. Let's hope those problems get fixed soon. I think the fact that referrals are still manually approved on IS gets in the way too. On SS, the process is automatic.

If that's true, than I apologize to everyone. If referrals work for me, but don't work for everyone, than it's not fair. Than I didn't make any special success with referrals. Maybe they just work for me and it's not my merit.

We don't know if it's true, but if it is, it's IS who needs to apologize and fix the problem. I think it's good that you raised the issue of getting referrals on the forum, especially for IS. If anything, we need more buyers.

I don't think that the Istock referrals process works unless you point to your portfolio page.

I have links going to their front page (which according to their instructions SHOULD work), but I have had no referrals from it, even though I have found photographers on there that have also signed to other sites from my referrals.

I could have just been unlucky of course...

At least we now know that you Goldenangel did everything you could to attract more buyers. If you didn't get any referral earnings from it, that's IS problem, and they should fix it. But at least, you brought some buyers to IS. My first post in this thread was addressed to those who didn't do a thing to attract new buyers. Not to people who are trying. I hope you will get many referrals in future.

You do need to either point to your portfolio page, or have the "refnum=..." added to the link you give out, but you will not receive referrals for bringing more contributors to istock. They only pay for referrals who actually purchase credits, and the credits must be purchased during the first 14 days after they sign up using your referral link (as that is when the cookie expires).
