"Today, however, the two sides announced a new partnership 'to develop image-rich, compelling products and services for Microsoft products like Bing and Cortana using Getty Images world class imagery.' The companies will partner 'to provide real-time access to Getty Images imagery and associated metadata to enhance the Microsoft user experience.'

I have no idea what this means for Getty/iS contributors. But why do I assume it's bad news?

How much do you bet that Microsoft will do an Adobe and buy up Getty  ;)

It probably means you get a hundredth of a penny when your images come up in certain searches on Tuesdays in months with Y in them.

Pretty much the one question I had when I started reading this "exciting news". How much will I get paid! The rest I really don't give a hoot much anymore. I don't care who or how, I just want them to Show Me The Money!

"Our technology teams will work together to create beautiful, engaging applications and services for Microsoft users with licensed content and attribution for photographers and other content creators.

I don't want attribution I want to be paid.

It probably means you get a hundredth of a penny when your images come up in certain searches on Tuesdays in months with Y in them.

And also:

How much do you bet that Microsoft will do an Adobe and buy up Getty  ;)

That may not be all bad? But this appears to be the end to the lawsuit about Bing search and the collages.

Will this mean more sales for us or more freebies for the world at large?

"Getty and Microsoft ..." -- do you even have to ask?

Perhaps you meant that to be rhetorical.  :)

A faint whiff of hope.  Or more likely paint fumes.

if they need Getty on board it must be about a News App for mobile platforms to integrate with Bing and Bing Maps, what else they could mean for "image rich products and services", they already own Corbis.

Did you fail to follow the link in the first post? "Tuesday that Getty dropped its lawsuit against Microsoft, which was originally filed this past September."

Maybe the words, "Massive Infringement" will help?

What else could it mean, you ask? Settlement.  ;D
