Look at this user http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=2134884 Hulton Archive.
Is Getty images licensing its images under istockphoto?

I only see photographs of old portraits (mostly b&w) of famous people of previous centuries. A very niche market, I wonder how many downloads this will attract?

See official announcement on iStock web site.  Hulton is apparently a famous image library with thousands of rare and ancient images.

These aren't photographs - they are illustrations (or drawings depending on how you want to term it).  The photographs from the Hulton collection won't be added to the collection on iStock from what I understand.

That's a relief since the full Hulton archive runs into the tens of millions, thanks for the link. I am assuming that the photographs will continue to do better on Getty rather than IS.

Nice move. This addition that makes istock more attractive without hurting any of their contributors. But i have the feeling this was just the first step to move images from getty to istock so their contributors getting used to it. Istock has the Dollar Bin and Getty has Istock  Wink

If you read through the 4 pages of forum posts at istock, saying "wow this is great" there are the minority who are asking why Getty can submit public domain photos and other cant.  Also, how can you sell an RF license on a PD image.

istock have replied that they are treating everyone equally (though it has been noted by users they have a large upload limit and their keywords aren't great).

Brave people to voice complaints on the IS forums, that's a sure fire way to get banned.

They were questioning (in the nices way possible probably for that reason )more than complaining.

Looking at that portfolio makes me feel quite ignorant - I have no idea who most of those people are!

LOL!!  sharply_done...  no reason to feel ignorant unless of course you happen to be ..say 125 years old or an English history major!!!   The whole collection (Hulton) is quite impressive and this is only the tip of the iceberg from McGetty.   With Istock's overall traffic rating (thanks : Alexa) in the 200's and the best McGetty has to offer in the past 6 months is the high 1300's .. a hell of a lot more people world wide are heading to Istock..  it only makes sense for McGetty to start moving niche collections to where the people are...  instead of the other way around!

Get comfortable with it....  it's only the beginning.

nice answer. The crap on getty is probably worse than the average to good stuff on IS, so we should be ok.

Yeah, but the crap on Getty could easily swamp IS completely, as there is sooooo much of it!
