I am adding comma separated tags in LR and IM imports them as one keyword where word are separated by space. Am I doing something wrong? I have to edit each picture after adding it to IM.

As far as I know IM has been out of commission ever since they implemented disambiguation. There's more info on the istock "Tools and Apps " forum. If you are on a PC, you might try Deep Meta which sounds to be like IM on steroids.

Weird, it's only option on their Software Downloads page (http://www.istockphoto.com/downloads.php)
