Title: Is somebody stealing my photos on iStock?
Post by: Chichikov on August 19, 2017, 02:31
This 11.9% of sales in Ivory Coast is really unusual…
What do you think, somebody stealing my photos?

Possibly - we can't know any more than you do.
You'd need to cross check with all the limited info available.  I had something similar with the Philippines and it turned out to be one big sale.

Yes you are right, I should look the full report… but I am sooooo tired with all this iStock procedure…

Edit: well, it corresponds to 3 "big" sales, so nothing bad I think.
I would have been more preoccupied if they were a bunch of sub!

Thank you ShadySue!

Could be a proxy server. There are many reasons to stay anonymous when buying from major stock agencies.

Stealing them... by buying them? Seems to defeat the point slightly.

You say someone bought your photos from Ivory coast. How can that be stealing?

Obviously he was concerned with someone downloading a large number of cheap subs and uploading them to their own account afterwards. Thereby stealing them.

You see, even thieves make investments.

Yes, you are both right, buying them to resale them then.

When I see that in some countries where sales are generally inexistant or never so much I sell a lot of sub it is difficult to not to think that the aim could be to buy the images at low cost to resell them on other sites.
It is not rare, but apparently here it is not the case.

Surely every single person who has has bought one of your images could also upload them and sell them as their own, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sure, keep an eye out for your stuff, maybe the odd reverse image search from time to time, but it seems counter-intuitive to get worried when somebody buys a load of your stuff. You should be cracking open the Absinthe and having a party!
