Well i wish they would deliver this puppy.
The current best match is lasting too long and doing nothing to enhance my sales.

Whats about that F"#"#%%  best match.  When someones sales are down, doesnt that mean another persons sales are up?  It gotta be constant. Or am I totally off here?

Perhaps if you don't have the same amout of customers visiting your shop as once visited i would image those people supplying the stock to that particular shop would all see a dip in sales/revenue.
The new ' keyword relativance' factor in  the new best match  should be live by the end on the month.
It will not stop istock from changing the best match as and when then choose though.

Sorry - no constants on microstock ... everyone's sales can be down if purchases are down, >:(

If it would be constant, you wouldn't have any downloads at all since all the image that were up there before yours would still be on page 1. Change is needed to give everybody similar chances over time at least. With some changes you win, with some changes you lose. That's life.

^ change is absolutely necessary. I think the constant that I often refer to is constant change. the revolutions should be constant in order to ensure that all files get a fair shake. and then files that given a fair shake and don't sell get moved further and further back. the search is such a complicated beast, I don't think anyone (okay, maybe shank) underestimates how difficult the decisions are in regards to the best match algorithm.

in rogermexico's posts from December, there are references to the last big shift. though ambiguous, I hope this means that there will constantly be many small shifts that are less catastrophic for any one contributor at any one moment.

but the keyword relevancy thing is pretty scary. I just don't see how they can meaningfully measure sales from specific keywords. there are too many potential hops in between.

I obvisly didnt make myself understood here.  This (above) is exactly what I mean.  What im whining about, is that people complain when the best match change, wich mean someone else get the chance. wich is good  :)

Best Match Is the default search preference of istockphoto.
Best Match is not the only search preference used by buyers.
Best Match is also not relevant to buyers who have left istockphoto !

there are some pretty stupid search results. for example, first pages that comes up under 'environment' includes images of a mother and daughter, a tropical beach, business people gathered around a laptop, business men at a table shaking hands, oh look...and another image of business people at a desk. also a housing market 3D concept. this is a very competitive search term with at least 100K returns. there are also some images of teens with binders, an engineer in a glass building and a glass skyscraper. stellar returns for this search term  ???

Well I prefer this than that other one in which whatever you searched, you'd get only photos showing  crowns  ;)

best match is what you see at DT.  Search for "ham and cheese sandwich".

In IS you get 1055 results, most of which in the first pages are sandwiches with ham and cheese and a lot other stuff.

In DT you get 1533 results, and most of what you see in the first pages are ham and cheese sandwiches.

The different using titles and descriptions to set relevance makes!

Adelaide

The titles and description of files on istockphoto have no relavance in the search criteria for buyers.

She said it was on Dreamstime that the title and descrption was relevent. That's why the search is more relevent on DT

You were implying that DT has a more accurate search engine than istockphoto based on title and descriptions of files..
I shall put you on ignore for one week in the hope you change your attitude :P

Maybe you should get a sex change, I'd imagine most people have an easier job of understanding her than you!

I think I understand Alastair (Mr. Shank) at least some of time. He's a Brit. They have a very different sense of humor from the rest of the planet.
I believe that most of the time his tongue is firmly planted in his cheek.

He is our new RJ Miz (may he rest in peace). Every forum needs one fellow like him, just to liven things up, don't you think?
I could put him on ignore as others have done but I would miss out on all the commotion he causes :)

I will have you no i have had recent surgery and my new bionic penis looks wonderful.I should of perhaps waited a couple of years though till the technique was fully tested as my new testicles are made from cast iron and are the size of coconuts.I find i can't walk very far before getting severe backache.Lifes a bitch sometimes.....

RJM may have been a bit of a curmudgeon at times but at least he contributed tutorials that some will have found of use.....

Yeah I clicked on an old thread of the Miz and his tutorials are still available online. (RIP)

One last thing... please no more "best match" threads unless there has actually been a change!

I wonder whether the BM2 project turned out to be much more complicated than first envisioned and whether it will ever be delivered.

I would rather have them take their time and check the results of the tweaks they're doing than the past approach which has been to flip the switch and leave contributors freaking out. They're definitely tweaking it though. I see brief temporary changes.

I've noticed some transient and dramatic changes in the best match sort order of the images in my private lightboxes. What typically happens is that hitting the F5 key toggles between current best match and 'other best match'.
Doesn't seem to be happening today, though.

What Sharply said plus the best match sort for my personal portfolio has been way out of whack very briefly.
