Title: new files and 2.0
Post by: yecatsdoherty on March 09, 2009, 15:37
some of my new files are getting some dls on iStock, which is encouraging. though I have uploaded close to 200 in the last 30 days and the majority of them have barely been viewed. does anyone have a theory (preferrably a sound technical theory as opposed to a conspiracy theory) as to how new image data will be collected with new files still pushed back in search results?

I hope now was not a stupid tiime to upload new stuff. Kelly posted an update about best match 2.0 being held back for a bit. any guesses when it might be implemented? are we talking a few weeks, or a month? usually sales would be picking up this time of year but mine are still pretty bad. I am staying with IS exclusively regardless of sales, I do believe they will eventually pick up. but I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts, it helps to keep from feeling discouraged, lol.

My sales have jumped the past few weeks but it is all old files.  My new uploads aren't selling at all.  I am also wondering if it is worth uploading at the moment.

Yes I noticed that some new one of mine didn't got many views. But it's been only 2 days right now, will see.

They have been busy lately. I don't hope to see anything new for a month at least. But who know where their tests are right now. It could be longer. From what I see they are dealing with a quite complex algorithm

Another interesting thing is this

Most of our natural traffic comes from Google. This is good news because there are things you can do to affect the Google-friendliness of your images.
– Make your titles relevant
– Make your image descriptions relevant
– Link to your portfolio page from your personal website with good, relevant keywords.
– Did I mention you should make your titles & descriptions relevant?

That's new at Istock to me. I saw conceptual titles before and very long descriptions from many Istock contributors. Now it seem to become important like it is at Dreamstime. Maybe the new best match will consider those elements in the future.

well, fingers crossed....over the last few days my sales have started to take off again. again, only a few days so it could be a fluke, but it is really nice to have things bouncing back.

I'm finger crossed also LOL. My IS sales are quite good right now and even more, I'm happy with my portfolio sorted by best match. Any medium changes could make me unhappy LOL.

I think they may have done something to help out new files.  After several months of dry spell on new files I have gotten a number of downloads on brand new files this week.

Still getting DL's on old ones too, so if my port is any example they may have found the balance between old and new.  Here's hoping :)
