Allright, well it seems to be working and there seems to be interest in the istock lightbox idea.  How about a new lightbox each month?

Any others ideas for a box next month?

remember to vote - and you can change your vote as new ideas are added to the poll (you get 3 votes by the way).  The idea with the most votes on sept 1. will be used.

Confused about what i am talking about?  Check out

I like the idea of B&W - but I also love monochrome pics - maybe that would be an idea  - instead of B&W to do monochrome?

Do you guys see increase in views/sales from this? Or too early to tell?

I love monochrome as well and keep a lightbox of these images at iStock. As beautiful as they are they're a hard sell.

It's a good time to get the Christmas images out there.

Halloween I guess would be the next big event.

Christmas would be good too.

well we have only had it organized for 4 hours now ... not too much of an increase yet  Wink

But for my personal files and lightboxes i think it helps.  I think the more specific a subject is the more useful the box is.  So for september perhaps a specific topic is good.  Christmas is fairly specific but christmas baking would be even better.  Less people would be able to participate but if there was one each month everyone should be able to get in one eventually.

Doh... very smart question on my part, wasn't it  Roll Eyes

Sorry, somehow didn't connect it with fresh thread on nature lightbox and perceived as some ongoing thing that I missed, lol. Doofus is as doofus does.

it looks like B&W is a popular topic for many, but i wonder if it is too broad for a usefull lightbox.  Someone who is looking at B&W images probably also has an idea of what the subject of the photo is, not just any old B&W photo.  I wonder if it would be better to have B&W people or B&W landscapes or something more specific.  Any thoughts?

I agree 100%.

I also question the commercial value of b/w images - these belong more to the fine art market than the commercial photography one. Monochrome stuff (i.e. tinted black and whites) might be more useful.

We need a strong theme that addresses a target audience.

I don't have any B&Ws in my portfolio, but a couple of sepia ones that sell.  Monochrome ones seem to sell well too, although I observe that their color originals sell better.

But I agree we need a strong theme - that's why I suggested halloween, since it's an upcoming event.  Do you think it's too late for it now?

Adelaide

Halloween is good, but not everyone may have appropriate shots.
How about something more general like "Autumn"?
Or perhaps "Thanksgiving"?

I don't have Halloween images either, nor Autumn or Thanksgiving, but I like your suggestions.

ahh good.  I am glad you voted for transport Smiley
I think B&W is much too broad of a subject actually.  If a buyer is looking for a portrait in B&W, and clicks on the B&W lightbox after viewing a nice portrait image - and the lightbox is filled with landscapes, fruits, and trees .... he won't find it too usefull.

Will airport images be ok?  That's all I have in this subject. No airplanes, just halls, signs and boarding area.

My two cents: Anything clearly related to transportation (i.e. getting people or things from one place to another) is okay.

People walking in airport is good, people walking on beach is not. Cruise ship is good, model boat is not.
Aliens boarding UFO is good, aliens invading Earth is not.

*Darn* it.  These burly guys in dark glasses and black suits commandeered my Interplanetary Spacecraft photos.  You mean, they would have qualified?

Edit:  LOL, apparantly I used a cuss word and it didn't appear.
