This post got blocked by you know who but I will ask it here. Why do Fridays seem to be a very bad or no sales day compared to the rest of the week. Does the US stop work on this day an have an extended weekend ?

I never noticed this pattern. For me, fridays are just like the other working days of the week

I don't believe they stop working on Friday in the USA, they're working a lot more than in Europe, it's not uncommon for ppl to pull double shift or have two jobs over there. It's probably ppl from the rest of the world taking it easy on Fridays and prefer to enjoy themselves and have an extended weekend Wink

I have, it's very obvious at SS as well, since there's more buyers from outside of US than at IS. And it's easier to compare as well since I usually get something like 8 times the number of DLs compared to IS. DT is strong today, but for me there's no pattern over there and the sales are very low as well

Because people are finishing projects at the end of the week.  They're not starting anything new, so they aren't gathering material.

Because people start boozing already on friday lunchtime, so when they get back to work they dont give a toss about business and when finishing they go to the nearest wine-bar and get even more zozzled. Grin

all answers above are right, but lagereek's in particular may also explain why saturdays are usually worse than sundays: friday night hangover effect on next morning

I agree, there's probably lots of factors which usually make Friday the weakest weekday for sales - projects are wrapping up, people are leaving early for the weekend, the Friday afternoon skive etc.

But I think the fact that iStock runs on Calgary time is the strongest factor, since Calgary is in one of the world's latest (as it were) timezone.  Sales on what counts as 'Sunday' sales usually look much better than Saturday because by the end of Calgary's Sunday, much of the world has been up and working for many hours.  In fact by midnight on Calgary's Sunday, cities like Auckland and Sydney have pretty much finished Monday's work day (by then it's 6pm in Auckland and 4pm in Sydney if my calculations worked out).  Japan, Korea and China aren't far behind that.

So back in the days when iStock had an annual 100% royalties day  Roll Eyes, they were careful to make sure it fell on a Friday to cash in on the fact that they were only paying for weekend sales in much of the world.

But this pattern is only recent for me. It didn't use to be like this.

Have a guess. Let's see if you can work it out all by yourself. Then you could start a new thread titled "Why is December slow?" and then work that one out for yourself too.

Isn't there some religious holy day on fridays? Islam and bahaii, I think.

Empirically:
Weekday      DLS %   $ %
Monday      17.9%   17.5%
Tuesday      18.7%   19.3%
Wednesday   20.2%   21.5%
Thursday   18.4%   19.1%
Friday      14.9%   14.4%
Saturday   4.3%   3.5%
Sunday      6.1%   4.6%

They are the worst for me. Lower DLs and lower $ per DL than other week days.

Blame the US but from what I've seen the UK is six hours ahead of the US their day ends by 10am US time and they seem to close up at noon for the weekend. Before the US gets up for breakfast the UK has closed up for the weekend. That's something that would hurt sales. End of the week stinks, Monday is start work, you only have 3 good days a week.

In the summer in the US many companies do shortened hours on Friday so that might play into it a little bit too.  Of course this week the entire east coast of the US is preparing for a major hurricane headed up from the Carolinas to NYC and then up to Boston.

Had my best day of the week at IS again last Friday. Curious, isn't it?

Interesting.  I had a decent day of about 20 dls.  Not too typical for me.
