Hello,

I need to buy a backdrop support. I am on a budget, but still I am drawn to something that can be extended in a way. I've seen these Manfrotto systems that you can configure the way you want. Is it worth the price?

Is this one one that you can extend?

There is also
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/31774-REG/Lowel_SP_93.html

But it seems Manfrotto is easier to find if you want to extend it.
I'd like two or three bars for different backgrounds. I don't need to buy them all now but I want it is possible in the future at least.

Being on a budget, how can I get cheap backgrounds? I am always reading about these white roles from Home Deopt, what is it exactly?
And for a formal portrait background, something dark......can't I just use some fabric?? Just to start off - later I can buy something serious? Why are these things so expensive?!

Thanks,
Simone

Regular old fabric is usually 54" - 72" wide and muslins are traditionally 10' wide.  Works fine for singles or head shots, tough for groups!

I have local kijiji photography category in my RSS feeds so every time it is updated I am notified.  Mostly cameras and lenses - but from time to time some sweet backgrounds come available too.  Why don't you post "looking for background and support system", you might be surprized.

If you buy something like this you could gel it to many different colours.  I haven't bought from this guy, but I've heard Tim West makes very good backgrounds.  http://cgi.ebay.ca/10x20-Hand-Painted-BACKGROUND-Muslin-BACKDROP-GM-/370423885440?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2

I can rent locally a 10x20 background and stand for about $10 a day (camera stores that also cater to pros should have rentals).
