I want to emulate the photo below, but I am not sure if they used a light box and put a painted background paper on it, or just shot the painted background that had already darker rim around it. What do you think ?

The darker edges may have been done in Photoshop.

I haven't studied this closely but my guess is they shot it with reflected light rather than light shining through it. Just my guess.

This, to me, provides a valuable lesson in image sizing. The contibutor would make more money if she/he had made the image a mere 184 pixels wider, which would give it an XL size on IS.

In order to maximize income you need to pay attention to image sizes when posting to the various sites.

Wise advice, I should be more careful about that.
