Hello,
I developed software called Microstock Analytics.
This program helps tracking sales across multiple sites.

Features:
 • Display earnings/downloads/RPI graphs by month, week, day
 • Track individual shoots and concepts - earnings, downloads, ROI, RPI and more
 • Estimate earnings based on first week sales on Shutterstock
 • Track performance of individual files across all sites
 • Show best candidates for IStock upload (for best use of limited upload slots)

Supported Sites:
 • IStockphoto
 • Shutterstock
 • Fotolia
 • Dreamstime

Quick intro video:

Free version supports up to 500 files on each site.

Does indeed seem usefull for independents.
How much does the full version cost ?

Depends on size of portfolio:
1500 files on each site - $9.99/month ($99.90/year)
3000 files on each site - $24.99/month ($249.90/year)
And unlimited - $49.99/month ($499.90/year)

Looks very interesting. Is there (or will there be) a version for Mac OSX?

How do you gather what looks to be hourly download data from IS?  Are you using the API, or logging in and scraping the data?

corepics, at the moment it's Windows only. In future I might make version for Max OS too.

sjlocke, I'm not using API, everything being gathered by logging in and parsing pages. Hourly data is not being gathered atm, only date of sale. This makes sense only for very big portfolio with lots of sales like yours :) What you probably referring to is Hourly Rate which is an estimate. It is based on estimated revenue in first 2 years of sales, photoshoot budget and amount of time spent.

Are the stats 100% private? Or do you plan of selling aggregate data like LookStat?

I don't have any access to stats. They all stored on local harddrive only.

Well :) I hope pricing structure makes the software very affordable to most contributors regardless of portfolio size. At the same time it allows me to make better support and include more and more valuable features in future.

It looks like a great program which has potential to be very useful.

One suggestion would be to allow sorting the images when creating collection and perhaps a search feature.. some what to easily look through a large quantity of images to add to a collection.

I am still waiting for a software that will do on the fly statistics for me. Nothing spectacular, something like picNiche (which I'm no longer using), but to be standalone and refresh at my chosen amount of time to check for new sales, make daily / monthly totals and that would be enough. THAT would be really nice.

leaf, this feature is very high on my list. Will try to add this in next version.

Xalanx, I thought of doing something like this. Perhaps you want see a popup if update returned new sales? I used software that did something like this. But then it gets really annoying after a while, because it interrups your work. It was the biggest reason I did not implement it.

Actually it is way too much for most contributors I would say. 500$ a year is like giving away one month revenue from one of the Big 4.
Consider also that you are offering stats from only 4 sites AND you virtually do not bear any extra expenses anymore.
I am a Fotolia Gold, doing pretty well on Shutterstock and working with a few other agencies, but would not like to spend more then 50$ a year on such program, however cool it is.

Are you saying account details and passwords are stored on a local hard drive, what security is in place to protect that hard drive?

I read it that account details are only stored on the users computer, i.e. not transfered to Andrey, but I'm sure he'll clear it up.

Account passwords are stored and encrypted on your local harddrive only. It is in "My Documents\Microstock Analytics" folder. Following general computer security measures will make your data secure (i. e. using antivirus and firewall).
Account names are used to identify your Microstock Analytics account during login (otherwise it will be possible to use one Microstock Analytics account to track sales for unlimited number of people).
All other data (upload dates, thumbnails, sales data and so on) is stored My Documents folder on your local harddrive as well.

I'd agree. Way, way, way too expensive for what it is. Like Niserin I would consider $50 per year a maximum to spend on such a tool.

If there there would be a tool with that amount of features at that price half a year ago I will just buy a license it instead of creating new one. At some point it started taking me way too long at the end of the month to track sales. So I decided to create Microstock Analytics. And now it helps me a lot to measure how well different concepts and shoots are performing.

What stats do you guys measure? How long does it takes per month? Do you think you can benefit a lot from having more sales information and being able to analyze it fast?

I enter the numbers into an excel spreadsheet every morning.  To collect the stats from iStock, Shutterstock Dreamstime and Fotolia takes about 3 minutes a day.  The graphs and averages are calculated automatically but I don't bother tracking individual image sales or revenue by shoot, as it simply takes too much time and I can see which shoots are earning the most simply by looking at my best sellers and maknig lightboxes at Dreamstime and seeing their total income.  The method is rather inaccurate though and the exact numbers would be nice to see.

So, where I would really find your software helpful is calculating the return per shoot.  But my feelings are similar to niserin - my pain threshold is about $50/year as well.

3 mins to enter sales and $? you arent placing their size.. if so it would take a lot more.. I used to do that and I have little sales but have given up and now only do the stats once a month on an excel, during the month I keep a txt

no, the only thing I am tracking is $/day/site .. which I can then figure out RPI (Return per Image.. overall) and monthly income, and a very approximate return per shoot (through Dreamstime)
I don't really care which size is bought really, or even how much each download earned, although if the info was presented to me, it would be interesting to see.

I don't have a problem with the pricing, if you have 3000 images online you should be making plenty to pay $50.00 a month.

I just can't get the software to work, it tries to process files but fails shortly in. Tried on Windows 7 (2 comps) and Windows Vista. I've already e-mailed him about it.

My opinion is that it should be a one time price.  Since all the information is stored locally, there are no hosting costs or any further costs to the writer.  It looks useful, but I wouldn't be up for a graduated monthly fee like that.

It's not about 'making plenty'. Personally I would just prefer to spend $500 (a year price) on extra photoshot, flash light or even short cool holidays,.
$500 a year is EXTREMELY exaggerated for something yeah cool and convenient, but not necessary. Even though I don't get funky graphs and exact numbers, I spend maximum 15 minutes browsing those 4 sites (about 2500 images porfolio) to see which pictures and sessions were successful.

Then don't spend it. If the pricing structure is "unsustainable" then he will find out the hard way. I'd rather him start high and lower the price than start low and have to raise the price.

It's almost as expensive as buying Photoshop every year! As Sean says it should be a one-off price. I can't think of any other simple software that you have to effectively 'rent'. It's not going to work.

niserin, I surprised you refering to price of Unlimited account. I just quickly checked using Google search. If you keep current upload rate Pro 3000 account will be enough for another year or so. This account is two times cheaper.

Of course you can spend money on another photoshoot. However, knowing exactly in which photoshoot and concepts to invest, can be much more efficient.

leaf, 3 min / day makes around 18 hours by the end of the year. This is not counting return on photoshoot calculations for Dreamstime. Even then calculations are very rough. Using Microstock Analytics you also benefit from seeing a lot more stats.
It is all personal, I cannot judge here, but for example, I would rather spend time making more photoshoots then in front of speadsheet.

sjlocke, I think it will be possible to introduce license for lifetime use of the program.

Storing all information locally has a lot of benefits for users:
 • users have full control and ownership of this information. This eliminates possibility from selling this information by anyone except user
 • it is possible to receive up-to-date stats as often as you need (the is no limit on how often server will update stats)
 • in general user interface is faster and much more responsive

Monthly fee allows contributor to pay smaller amounts per month instead of paying whole amount upfront. It is much easier to pay per month if your income is also monthly based. Also it is less risky for users. You are not bound to software forever and you can test it with less risk. Also I understand that some people will prefer to own the software. I think there will be lifetime license in future.

Agreed, he should charge what he thinks he can sell the software for.  That said, people are just expressing their opinions and for Andrey that is also very valuable to hear.. even it isn't someone saying they think the price is great.

perhaps it is wrong to compare it to another program.. but I find it hard not to... You can now also rent photoshop.  The price is $35/month.  For me, I use photoshop 6-8 hours a day.  I think $35/month is a crazy high price and imagine only business who need a rental would go for such a deal.  I have rather purchased Photoshop outright.  I would probably use Microstock Analytics a few times a month to check on my shoot ROI .. so I can't justify spending $50/month.  If there are enough people who DO feel it is a well worth a $50/month investment then Andrey has priced the software well and I'll just have to stick to my graphs in excel ;)  Again, I certainly feel Andrey should price the software as he feels fit and should try and make the most income from it he can.

Anyhow, back to the software.
It seems to run very well and loads the thumbnails quickly.  Also switching graph types and collections is very fast.
I had problems logging into Shutterstock though.. did anyone else manage?
I like that you can change the size of the various windows to increase the size of the graph
It would be nice to be able to search the thumbnails shown.. or break down which ones are shown
I like the option to change the thumbnail size

Tyler, did you see Captha window for Shutterstock? If code entered is wrong it will appear again. If login data is incorrect there will be error message in update window.

How would you like to break down show thumbnails? By month uploaded?

@Andrey:

I was willing to try your tool, but I got many error messages in the first place:

Quote
http://submit.shutterstock.com/stats.mhtml
Error: ShutterStock: Failed to fetch a page: System.Net.WebException: The operation has timed out
   at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
   at MicrostockAnalytics.LogicBase.DownloadFile(String Url)
 Check your internet connection settings
Error: IStockPhoto: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Year, Month, and Day parameters describe an un-representable DateTime.
   at System.DateTime.DateToTicks(Int32 year, Int32 month, Int32 day)
   at MicrostockAnalytics.LogicIStock.ProcessFile(Int32 FileId, String Html)

(this goes on for some pages)

In general the tool looks nice, but 50 dollar per month feels to much for me (I have more than 3000 files). The Photoshop comparison above says it all. A fixed price or a lower montly fee (e.g. 5-10 dollar) woul probably be more reasonable.

I guess that is sort of what the collections do, but if I wanted to find stats for one image.. and I know it is an image of a ring. .but not sure where it is, in a list of 10,000 images, I could be looking for a while.  it would be nice to break down what is shown with a simple search for 'ring' without having to create a collection for just that image.
It would also be nice to sort the images by highest ROI or best selling image etc.

yeah, I did see the shutterstock captcha but still couldn't log in.  It said the captcha was wrong...  I tried about 10 times but no luck.

I think I found the problem.  It wasn't captcha and I was quite sure it wasn't as I usually get it right on the first time on Shutterstock.  I tried 20 times through your software and it still didn't work.

Then I thought maybe some of the strange characters in my password were sending the software for a loop.  I had a & and a ! symbol in the password and now I suspect that was the problem.  I just changed my password to only numbers and letters and it worked.  Could that have been the problem?

Ok, maybe a bug...

When I hover over the images it says the number of files and 'online since'  I am guess that if the image is on 2 of the 4 sites it should say 2 with the date it is online from. So the maximum 'number of files' is 4.  Am I understanding this correctly.

Anyhow, I have one image with 'number of files' at 15 ... and no I didn't upload that file 13 times to shutterstock ;)

Tyler, issue with symbols in password has been fixed.

The program shows that many number of files because image matching algorithm decided that they're identical. Currently I'm working on updated algorithm that will fix such cases.

I tried this and love it. There was quite a lot of duplicates for some reason, and was about to suggest a way to join two files when I noticed it's already in place (select two files > right click > join files)

There's one thing that confuses me though. For instance, for one of my files the 2 years estimated revenue is $179.3, but monthly estimated revenue says $4.53 - multiply by 24 (months) and you get $108.72. Why is that?

And maybe I'm just stupid but I don't get "revenue dynamics" and "download dynamics"

The charts are very neat, and it's great to be able to compare agency performances. For the first time I'm able to visualize how iStock sales have dramatically decreased over months while Shutterstock has loyally taken over its place, making up for any loss - this trend is fairly obvious in my charts

I'd love to see more agencies being added over time. Canstock (Better than Dreamstime for me), Bigstock, 123RF, Graphic Leftovers, Veer etc..

I just noticed something odd. As I get paid in EUR from Fotolia I have to set Fotolia Credit, USD to 1,46 (current EUR to USD exchange rate). When I do that, the charts change but comparing the chart results to actual results the numbers are a bit off. I divided the chart revenue with the actual revenue for May and got 1,28 instead of 1,46. For April it's 1,18. For March it's 1,37

2 years estimated revenue can be bigger then monthly revenue multiplied by 24 because sales on Shutterstock are usually much bigger in first week/month.
Both of them are very rough estimations but usually can give you idea how well photoshoot will sell. They usually work best for photoshoots or group of similar files instead of individual files.

Using 'revenue dynamics' allows you to see sales in first days/weeks/monthes from upload date. Even if files in file set have different upload dates. This feature was developed to help tracking photoshoots when files were uploaded in batches during several week and more. It allows you to compare photoshoots/concepts better and get idea of what sales usually look like throughout files life.

The problem has been fixed. Program will update automatically on start or latest version can be downloaded from:
http://www.microstockanalytics.com/MicrostockAnalyticsSetup1.0.exe

That problem has been fixed, but now it takes ages to fetch stats from istock.

The problem has been fixed. I apologize for any inconvinience caused by release of new version. All paid accounts were extended for one more week.

Following the 'GI Sales' problem I re-downloaded and now the program just crashed (Windows 7) upon start.  No error.

I'm not a paying customer, but thought I'd try the program.. ;)

Please try to start the program again. It should update automatically and new version shouldn't crash.

I though it's free up to 500 files per agency not a total number since it pulls all the files and you have all the duplicates (4 copies of each files really). So of course stats are totally off. I would have to upgrade to get the correct.

Can you explain why is this any better than to just punch in number in excel once a month and get myself an exactly the same pie chart and month to month earnings? I thought it was more advanced, that you can have sales predictions etc (perhaps there are and I just couldn't find them)?

Free version supports up to 500 files on each site. This means up to 2000 files counting duplicates. Program will detect identical files uploaded to different sites automatically and group them together. In few cases algorithm may not detect duplicates. In this case you can manually join files together. Select two or more files, right click and them Join Files.

One of the core features is ROI (return on investment) on photoshoots. This allows you to compare performance of different concepts and photoshoots. Also you can see monthly/weekly/daily for indivudual photoshoots and files. This gives you much better idea of what sells and allows to optimize your production.
Sales predictions and located in middle stats panel on the left. They are calculated based on first week sales on Shutterstock. Idea is to get estimate on sales very fast (instead of waiting several months) and use this information in following shoots.

There are many more stats and features that can help to understand performance of you portfolio and this market in general. If you have more questions I will be happy to explain.

only 'big 4' websites are supported?

So far, yes, only 'big 4'. Revenue from 'big 4' is usually at least 90% and should give quite good idea of what and how well sells. But I'm planning to add more sites in future.
