Topic: Dublin, Ireland GTG and Shoot - June 7, 2010

« on: March 27, 2010, 04:36 »

Since there seems to be a few of us going to the Cepic New Media Conference Lee Torres from MicrostockDiaries and I have decided to organize a relaxed shoot and GTG around the same time so hopefully people can get both into their calenders.  There is still a lot of planning to do about where and how but it WILL go forward so you can put it in your calender as a for sure happening.  Also, if you are interested in helping out organizing we are grateful for help.

I'll try to keep this post updated with all the current info so you don't have to go search through this thread for all the details.

SHOOT INFO
=======================================
Where: Dublin
Meeting Location for both shoots:
Meet at St. Stephens Green  just inside Fusilier's Arch on the grass. (check on google maps if you are not sure where it is)
Once we are finished with the paper work we will start shooting right away in the park.  We will plan to later walk down to Trinity College (10 minutes walk) and shoot a little there, then if time permits walk to the river and Ha'penny bridge (10 more minutes walking) or elsewhere along the river or that area of the city.

When: June 7, 2010
Casual Shoot: June. 7, 2010 @10:00-14:00
Business Shoot: June 7, 2010 @ 16:00-20:00

Still working on trying to get more...

Cost:
Update:  We will be paying the models 100 Euro each and I'll try to book at least 5 models for each shoot (models seem to have a tendency to cancel at the last minute, so we could only end up with 3 for each shoot).  We'll split the costs evenly amongst everyone who shoots.

 It depends on how much help we get from others, if we have to pay for any locations or decide we want any make-up or wardrobe, and how many models we end up using etc.  To give you an idea of cost though, if we had a model/photographer ratio of 1:1, your costs would be approximately 1 models worth for that shoot.  I don't know what the going rate for Dublin is, but in NY I paid $100/model.   We'll try to keep the costs down as much as possible, shooting at free locations etc.  The only thing that will cost though is if you shoot - so you should be able to get your money back from image sales.  If you just want to hang out in the evening or assist in the shooting then it will be free, other than what you spend on food / drinks.  Anyone who comes to one of the shoots and doesn't take pictures will be put to work holding reflectors / lights.  We will be happy to have you  there Smiley  If everyone who comes wants to shoot then we will switch off assisting and shooting.  Or, if you just want to shoot for one of the shoots then just assist for the second / (third?) shoot, you will only pay for the shoot you actually shot images.

Non-Exclusivity: We will be getting releases from all the models at the shoot so they can be used for stock.  To make the shoot as open to everyone as possible, the images will be free for you to upload to any agency - the only problem this creates is for istock photographers who might not be able to upload the very similar images they take as exclusive content.  I'll let the exclusives decide how to deal with that themselves, but know if you are exclusive and want to upload images from this shoot to istock, there are going to be other photographers who have very similar images on other stock sites.
Models:  I'll put our confirmed model count here.  Hopefully we can have around a 1:1 model photographer ratio (again depending on the number of us who shoot), but at a 1:1 ratio we can group up and get 4 models in a shoot with 2 people assisting and 2 shooting or something....

Facebook Event Page
Any other thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

REMEMBER TO BRING

    * Lighting equipment you want to use ... strobes, reflector, other things...
    * Your model releases
    * Pocket full of cash
    * camera etc...  of course
    * any props you might want to use

You can get reasonable rates here http://www.d4hotels.ie/ and it's got good public transport links to the city centre.

From the airport you can get a taxi or aircoach www.aircoach.ie or public bus

I wouldn't rent car as they are expensive, the road signs and the one system is confusing and parking is in short supply.

Worth visiting is the Guinness storehouse, you can even pull your own pint

Fallon & Byrne do good coffee, sandwiches, etc and it has a wine bar downstairs

If any has any questions let me know

Aaaargh, I was all excited - I can get cheap flights to Dublin. But it's a Monday (I have to be at the day job!)
Good luck and enjoy, peeps!

@michealo Thanks for the info, I was hoping you would see this thread.  I actually booked one of the D4 hotels and it was very close to the conference later in the week and cheap so hopefully I am happy with the choice.  I'll have to add Fallon & Byrne to my stops too Smiley

Are you living in Dublin now?  Are you going to make an appearance??

@ShadySue ... too bad you can't come Sad  I think you should get a free holiday once in a while for personal projects!

The D4 hotels are ok, I stayed in the Burlington a couple of months ago, decor isn't the most modern but the room was big, clean and quiet, and the location is very good. I live 160 miles away but I will do my best to make an appearance :-)

Hahahaha I'm a teacher: not even five minutes' flexibility. So I have two weeks coming up with nothing planned; spring is at least three weeks late, and I find this not-snowy but still-bare-trees time very uninspiring. :-(
Hey, though, this looks like a great opportunity - why no more takers?

We figured there would be more competition for activities on the 8th, plus I'll need to spend some time at the venue on the day prior.  Any chance you can change your flight date?  Surely the extra revenue will quickly cover the fee to change flight dates.  ..and hotel reservation.  Wink

Hi Lee,

 I'm there as you know, and if it doesn't conflict with business I would be super excited to join in the fun. Let me know the schedule as soon as it's set. Look forward to seeing you there.

Best,
Jonathan

There's nothing specific that I know of yet but people tend to organize business meetings for the day prior. If I hear of anything open I'll be sure to post it here.

I might be in for the GTG/shoot.
Maybe from 6-10th or so.
Depends on what models will attend too, do you have any booked?
Any French models?

haha yeah we were thinking to use all French models Smiley

no, seriously though, - we don't have any models booked yet.  I'm guessing they'll be Irish though.   We'll start doing that soon.

So, who is shooting?
I think I am, still not 100% though.
Holgs, are you attending the conference?
Regarding hotels, the Ballsbridge inn and Burlington seem a bit far from city center, where are the GTG's going to take place?

I'm not going to the conference - no offense to those speaking or organising, but I think I can find better value for 190euros at one or more of Dublin's fine drinking establishments, where I'm hoping to be able to catch up with those participating!

I haven't booked any accommodation yet either - I think prices for the places mentioned here have also gone up in the intervening time.

Fair enough, but the when is still the 7th, right?

yeah, that's the plan.  No promises on the model count yet though as I don't know how easy they are to find in Dublin.
