This morning I found a photo of my son in an online newspaper  article  about a crazy shooter.
I contacted the newspaper and asked where they bought the picture and what licence they had obtained, and told them I was not happy with it.
They informed me that the image was licenced via Mostphotos and also took the image down and replaced it with a generic police picture.

When I looked at my Mostphotos account I saw that the image has not been sold from Mostphotos. It had zero sales. They might have sold it, but I had not registered a sale.

I contacted Mostphotos for an explanation and gave them a short time limit to reply, else  I would take the problem to an Internet debate. Which is what I do now.

Question is: Does Mostphotos sell pictures without paying the content owners?

Shocking!

Do you think the newspaper would forward you a receipt or anything?

Also try to find out how long ago was it purchased? The site owner might always say that the admin on the sale was not concluded and therefore the sale was not indicated yet.

We are totally at the mercy and honesty of the site owners. We have very little proof of when our work is sold and by which agency. If there is any indication that a site is selling our work without reporting it, I will be out of there so fast you will not even see a dust cloud.  But I can promise you that if there is some real proof of dishonesty, I will do my best to leave them with their walls burning!

I have found the delete account button and Im close to pressing it.

This is a very big deal! I think the reason you aren't getting many replies is that there's not much to say till more info comes out, but I am sure all MP contributors are watching closely to see the outcome and what their response will be...

News:
I just phoned Mostphotos, who explained that the newspaper is invoiced and that the sale will occur in my statistics when first the invoice is paid.

They also promised to take look on the MR problem (which they irresponsibly leave to the end-user to settle with the content owner) and they promised to rethink and eventually insert a phrase about demeaning usage of RF pictures.

So of the problem is solved. Mostphotos is not fiddeling with sales, they just work an oldfashioned manual procedure.

Admin can be a killer if your front end and back end is not on the same level of technology.  ;)
Thanks for the update, at least it is not another back stabbing site to get rid of.
