Title: who would have thought?
Post by: Dan on April 16, 2012, 13:46
I  just  uploaded  2  of  my  new  pics  today  and  just  now  i  received  a  like.  I  was  wondering  if  this  could  lead  to  a  sale?  I'll  have  to  get  busy  and  upload  more  but  time  is  a  problem.  Have  over  70  that  needs  to  be  uploaded  but  like  i  said  -  short  on  time.

I began uploading to the site in June of 2010, and I've had three sales.  I think it's safe to say that because the site is unmoderated, buyers don't take it seriously.

have no idea.. somehow it could make sense.. but there are many members not uploading much and liking a lot so if there isnīt any moderation they should not use into "best match"

i  just  thought  if  a  buyer  saw  a  pic  well  liked  by  their  peers  that  it  might  make  a  different

"Likes" are reason why I can't take MostPhotos too seriously. Instead of best images you can see on homepage portraits of weirdos that have nothing better to do than pushing the like buttons. In addition to it - they have the unique ability to "like" images with "low or no commercial value".
Fortunately I have a good month on MostPhotos in April - images that nobody likes sell relatively well.

that is wayyyyy subjective, what type of buyer? blogger? honestly that is very hard to predict but yes some might get because of the likes, that said my most liked havenīt got a sale maybe a lot more artistic than stocky..

it would be interested to know better their search algorithm but on a quick look the buyer only have the chance to pick when it was uploaded from today to 1 year, I have also seen that files are showed by order of SALES, seems there isnīt anything else changing it, the most downloaded pic on my search doesn't even have a like..

The only reason I bother with the site is that it gives you free online storage of your images. You can always go along and download full resolution copies if you have a disaster with your own hard drive. It is easy to upload to, the final bit of the import doesn't take much time (the bit where you say whether you have releases or not), and I got $23 in the past 12 months. Nothing great, but being paid for storing 3000 images is a good business model!

I believe (unless they have changed it) buyers do not see the Likes from contributor to contiributor. The site looks different for buyers vs. contributors. At least it was like this when MP change website layout (I think) 2 years ago.
