I had been thinking about jumping into the stock fray for a while.  Galastock spammed me, so I figured ok, give it a shot.  I have 50x photos on there, up now for about 2 weeks or so and only 7 sales.  Since I am a newbie, is this ok?
Anyone else doing onything on this site

no images there for me.

There are so many new companies it is hard to keep up.

not sure I will upload there, unless I hear some impressive things.

7 sales in 2 weeks with 50 photos sounds ok for a 2nd ot 3rd tier agency. What is their commission? What is the upload process like. I know you don't have anything to compare it to, but like Leaf, I don't want to waste time with another one the sales are high or the process is very painless.

Thanks

yep, me too. about the same. 7 sales in 2 weeks with 48 images. so to me they're great because at dreamstime i've had 1 sale in 13 weeks.

upload's easy as ftp. i do mine from my hosting co. so 48 images travels in about 20 seconds. payment's 30% of $1, $5 or the $39 extended rights.

Have you read the Photographer Agreement?

The site is Lavian.  It's curious that some sites are originating in Eastern Europe.  Do you know any reason for that?  Laws, taxes?

by Thad

Going slightly off topic does this mean you are FTPing from your computer to your website and then FTPing from your website to the microstock sites? If not does anyone do this or know how hard it is to set up. Obviously upload speeds from PC - Server are very slow but once its on a proper server file transfers would be much faster

I am curious about this for a while as I am currently on "assignment" at the moment hence the lack of posts and I am going to have so many photos to upload upon my return

i'm often on dial-up so i upload once via ftp to my host and send out to all the sites from there. my process is somewhat as follows:

1. add iptc info locally

2. upload to host

3. connect to host via telnet or ssh

4. run a single script file to submit to all sites that accept ftp

5. for the ftp challanged sites i use w3m, a text based browser running on the host, to submit to each

6. exit telnet

7. and finally, assign categories at each site

i do all this from a telnet session however it would be a fairly simple mattter to develop something in php that would provide a web based interface for the ftp side of the process.

hope this helps

I really can not get it???
Why is slower to upload with Cute FTP,Filezilla etc????
You just chunk a folder open 5-20 sessions in the same time and let them go.
Why all the trouble with telnet?

because the speed between datacentres will always be quicker than the speed between your home / small office and a datacentre.

upload *once* at the lower speed to the host, then run a script to transfer to 10 sites in rapid sequence (at the rate of about 1 image per second)

i'm often on a dial up so the time and cost savinges for me are consderable,

The excerpt/reference on madelaide's post is the actual Photographer Agreement of GalaStock which the photographer agrees to when he uploads an image. Notice that the agreement posted on the GalaStock site contain section which refers to CanStockPhoto, which is another stock agency. The agreement seems to be just copied from the other site.

This made some photographers warry about the site.... including me... ??? :-\

I have 64 up there now, with 17 waiting for what seems like forever.  Been on about 30 days now. Made 7 sales.  The minimum amount for a payout is 100 Euro.  Seems like at this rate, it will be a long time b4 that 100 Euro ever hits my account :(

I uploaded my best selling 12 shots a week ago. If they sell a few of those, I might give them more. So far, they haven't gotten around to reviewing them. Not looking good. I'm with kacper, wasted too much time on up and coming sites.

I think they suddenly have an influx of submissions during this past few weeks. Maybe because many are posting sales activity in forums. Not sure if they'll be adjusting their manpower to accomodate the increase in submission and meet their 3-5 days deadline or they'll just continue on their pace until the queue is cleared or everybody stops submitting due to delays in review. Hope they take the former approach and increase manpower. More submissions means many photographers, be it amateur or pro, are willing to entrust their photos, especially to a site that was mostly presumed dead.

It's relatively easy compared to other sites. They have FTP which basically smoothens the upload process. You still however need to go to your picture one-by-one and add a category for each pics before you can "send to stock" the picture. Take note...limit of keywords is 50.

Why should they do constantly fake sales? If there is a steady income of fake sales I am happy :) They have pending files in the queue from me, so why should they take the time to fake dowenload my images instead of reviewing my pics? That makes no sense. But who knows.. I will take the risk on this new site..

If these were fake sales, then there is a possibility of constant fake sales up until to a few dollars before payout. From then on, no more sales. I don't know if there is anybody/any company auditing GS but there is a big risk here. Consequently, there is also no forum so there is no semblance of any support or presence from the owner/admin. I think somebody here in microstock group emailed their support and the email bounced back. Sad to say, this site is an "upload at your own risk" one. Like grp_photo said, a payout info from a reliable photographer would be comforting to hear.

Hi Valerijs, thanks for coming.  I have not registered to your site yet because I heard the kinds of suspicions like the ones above on different sites, and people were also wondering about the future of the GS site.

I know that competition is hard, and I'm glad to hear that you have upgraded the system for the speed, it's a very good sign.  I really appreciate the fact that you are ready to face any questions.  I may go and sign up soon.  I wish you the best.

It's very wide question and very hard to answer in couple of words I think, we have to show differences for buyers we have licensing policy without dividing images under one license (for example, S, L, XL and XXL sizes (and prices) under one (for example. Standard) license, we have 3 types of licenses standard WEB, standard PRINT and EXTENDED with own prices ( the sizes of images for PRINT and EXTENDED are the same).
Chart of licenses [nofollow]
Also we have possibility for customers to buy only ONE image. (it is possible for logged user and for not logged , only price will slightly different).
It is just in couple of words...
We together - photographers and image stock - make common business - we sell photos to the customers, and I will very happy to hear your ideas and/or critique...

This sounds almost exactly like Dreamstime.

They have a web license, a print license, and extended licenses.

They used to allow a non-registered user the ability to buy one image, but they just did away with that.

So I don't see how your plan differs that much from the rest of the industry.

Hopefully, you have more than just that alone...

I use Netscape and when I try to view my submitted images, I see only one (when the conection is slow, I see that in fact one is loading on top of the other).  That would force me to use IE, no big deal (I have to ue it for BigStock already), but something to be checked from the buyer's point of view.

Uggggh! I thought I was waiting a long time (since the 9th), but now it looks like I have to wait longer. And I have an upload limit of only 5 per day. But I haven't been uploading anything new--waiting to see if the site takes off. Maybe this is a one man show and he's found out there's more to it than just putting up a site?

Jury is still out on this one, but it's looking less than a winner right now.

If I remember correctly, you were one of the first to upload to this site. I suspect (but can't prove) that as the amount of images coming in grew, the upload limit shrank in size so that now it's down to 5 per day. Even with that, they can't seem to get to the reviews.

I do think I'll contact support and see if I get any response. Will let y'all know if I hear anything.

Goes right along with the link to check out your "referals."

hi, i just strated in GS 15 days back & i think it's ok ..

Member for 15 days? And you got your images reviewed? Before I took mine off the site I had been waiting 3 weeks for a review of 35 images.

Just goes to show there is really something pretty hinky about the site. I think it's time to stop beating this dead horse.

How are people going on Galastock.  I am starting to get sales but it is slow though it is now beating LuckyOliver.

Anyway.  My main question:  I have now finished uploading my photos to Galastock but my limit has now increased to 50 per day.  Has anyone elses increased (mine use to be 20) or are they still restricting to 15,10,5 for new joiners?

Yes I got sales too and there are more about three times as much sales as at LO, but mainly through one picture. Got 11 dls on this one already. I just have 20 images on there..and stopped uploading, just have a dial-up connection right now.. And although it is better than LO that does not mean too much. Still one day at SS or IS is as one month on Gala. And I do not know how much future that site has.
