Design of http://www.vectorstock.com/ has changed. IMO it looks better. Unfortunately 0.25 per download and 100 USD payout didn't change.

someone please hack this site. its ridiculous to sell vectors for that cheap unless your pretty new and doing it as a hobby or you really dont care how you make that extra buck and dont mind lowering perceived value of goods.
i have to admit, i havent checked out the site since 2 years ago. I was just blown away by the audacity of that site to really lower bar.

I challenge all of you to try to find one single file priced at 10 credits, or maybe even 5  Wink Even $3 vectors are extremely rare

Quote
How is a vector priced?

1 CREDIT vectors (25 credits under Extended License)

Simple Icon sets, ornaments and graphics, traced images or silhouettes/shapes, simple backgrounds or graphic design elements, highly common or similar subject material. Single or groups of silhouettes and objects.

3 CREDIT vectors (50 credits under Extended License)

Multiple color Icon sets, ornaments and graphic sets, cartoons, complex silhouette groups, backgrounds or detailed design element sets or renders. Large groups of objects.

5 CREDIT vectors (75 credits under Extended License)

Multiple detailed Icon sets, ornaments and complex graphic sets. Highly detailed cartoons, illustrations, silhouettes, backgrounds or complex design element sets. Unique and creative compositions and subjects.

10 CREDIT vectors (100 credits under Extended License)

Original highly skilled and detailed illustrations, cartoons and graphics. Professional top quality illustrations and graphics.

A price scheme like that might fool some contributors into signing up though.

I have 3 at $3 and the rest are $1.

Looks like theres a glitch looking at my own portfolio.  Doubles like what SS gets sometimes.

I don't really like the redesign it's a pain for me to find things that I usually look at.  I haven't uploaded there since April.

My patience with VS is wearing thin. The pricing tiers is pretty much a bait-and-switch scheme. They don't follow their own criteria for pricing, and things that fall under the 3 and 5 credit categories still end up at 1 credit very often. I signed up assuming I'd see some of my stuff priced at 3 or 5 credits, but it hasn't happened.

I'm going to start requesting some price changes or delete stuff if they won't update to match the description of the tiers.

Yeah, I'm about to do the same.

They've got some of my old cr*p from back in the day. They can forget about getting anything new till they actually start pricing vectors fairly.

I emailed them a while back about the pricing, and how files that should have been priced higher according to their tiered system were not getting the appropriate prices. They told me that keeping prices lower resulted in more frequent sales and attracted buyers.

That's all fine and good when you're starting out, and I think they were probably smart to lean towards the low-end pricing to get some buyers on board. But the sales volume now is great, but the prices stink for contributors. I think VS is at a point where it would benefit everyone if they started to price things according to the schedule they claim to use. They have buyers. My steadily increasing sales volume supports that theory. They could be bringing in more money if they just priced things better. And I really doubt that it will turn off a lot of buyers if more 3 and 5 credit files show up in the system.

I am not expecting them to do anything fairly..

not submitting to them at all and will not be submitting if things does not improve dramatically..

I remember sending them an email about more than a year ago suggesting them a better pricing, and they were like "yes we are going to do something about it in the future"

Apparently after about 2 years, that future is still not here.. They don't realize they lose a lot of money themselves by selling the vectors for $1..

It won't because 3-5 is still very low and hard to find anywhere else in the industry except vectorstock!

I emailed them today that I considered the prices of some of my files below par, and that the sales don't make up for it. I gave them ID's of several of my images, which in my opinion deserve a 3 credit price instead of 1. A few hours later I got an email saying:

"No problem. We have raised the pricing on your files. The changes will take 12 hours from now to come into effect."

Nice, I didn't expect that. So if you feel your prices are too low, email them!

PS. now, in all fairness, 3 credits is still not a lot of money ($0,75 revenue per download), but it's something!

$3 does not satisfy me either.. I still wouldn't submit to them..

I can only submit to vectorstock if they implemented one of the following 3 methods:

1-) Keep the tiers as it is, (at $1 - $3 - $5 - $10) but let us price it fairly, as we wish..

or

2-) Keep the tiers as it is and implement a dreamstime like model where the file gets it's deserved price by selling..
Start every file at $1 but let it go up in pricing at certain sales numbers..
For example increase to $3 when it hits 10 sales, to $5 when it hits 50 sales and to $10 when it hits 100 sales and so on.. a few more tiers can be added for unbelievably good selling files..

3-) Just price everything at $5 and $10

I am definitely against them pricing the files themselves because they can never be fair and never will be able to give us what we deserve.. Either give us the power to choose the price or let the buyers decide by downloading them.. Sometimes a simple looking file can be very valuable and sell a lot even for a high price..

I did the same thing, and they took care of it.

True, it's still not up to par at 3 credits. But it's progress. I think VS could be a legitimate player in this business, and get to a point where they are offering more beneficial terms for everyone, themselves included. I don't see price increases hurting sales there. Vectors are still a bargain even at $5. But at least at $3 we're starting to get into the ballpark of reasonable pay per download. I'm at the 35% level, so on a 3 credit file I'm looking to earn $1.05. Not great, but not terrible either. My preferred earnings point is $2, so I'd need to see some files hit the 5 credit level and I'd need to be at the 40% rate, which should happen by the end of the year.

I just hope they start to price things higher as a policy, and not leave it on us to contact them to get specific files priced properly. For now, though, I'm not likely to upload anything new there until I see some more changes.

I was in there for a while and was selling, but then I did the math and realized something wasn't right.
The redesign looks fine but please don't upload there!

25 cents times 400 downloads to get a payout - doesn't seem right to me.

If you have to beg them to raise image value from 1 to 3 credits - come on.

I have to say I have no idea what it's like to sell on VectorStock which seems to be the main thrust of this thread, but I did stop in and check out the redesign, and it's a BIG improvement on that old design! That last one looked like it was for 800x600 monitors Cheesy
