So... microstock is my hobby really... as soon as my little one goes to preschool I am going to learn how to take photos properly, do courses and a degree etc, but right now, I am to be honest enjoying winging it..
so imagine my delight when I passed alamy quality contro!l
yay!
I imagined my first alamy sale, popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate one day in the far distant future..
then today, only a few months after submitting my images I noticed on my account page I had got a sale...
 for $2..
don't get me wrong I am chuffed to bits, I really am, but it wasn't the moment I was waiting for...
I know I am amatur and perhaps don't deserve to be on alamy at all at this stage... but...
I thought alamy sold pics for more money?
have I missed something?

I think it's Novel Use. You can opt out of it, but there are restrictions

I think dbv is correct.
You don't necessarily get more money on Alamy, but you can get much more, or you might get a small value sale, but if RM, you could get several repeat sales.

It has nothing to do with you, or your photograph; it has everything to do with the discount or deal the buyer has with Alamy.

As well as Novel Use, you can opt out of UK Newspaper sales (a sub scheme) and distributor sales (on which you get 30%) - by country. However, these are sales you almost certainly won't get if opted out. It's all about your toleration.

I've been at Alamy for many years. Sale prices have dropped off. I am NOT in the Novel Use plan. My last two sales are for $10 (I get $5) and a Distributor sale of $5.60 (where I ended up with $1.68). i guess I'll be waiting a bit longer for the big sales to come again.

My graph of sales at Alamy is a pyramid, slanting up sharply from 2006-2011 and then declining slow but steady since then.

My recent sales there have run the gamut from a few dollars to $400. You never know there so just keep at it! My average sale this year is $79 which includes some of those $2 ones that bring the average down - down from the better days in 2009-2011(average ~$150) - but up from the average of $29-49 from 2012-2014.
