If so, would you mind to share which photos sold and/or for how much?

I'm interested in this microstock business but just not sure how much effort to put in.

Thanks!

It's not that this isn't a valid question, it is, it's just a very personal question is all. There are areas where you can see this sort of information but you actually have to invest some of your time shooting, uploading, and taking a few chances with placement to find out.

Can't help with the Flickr/Getty question- I did notice a photo on Flickr yesterday that I doubt would have done well on iStock (I liked it but the subject doesn't sell well on iStock) which the tog said had sold 5 times on the Getty scheme, and wasn't making that sort of claim about some other pics I looked at. Some Flickr/Getty sales can be for piteous amounts.
I will say in general that you'll get nothing back from microstock without effort, but the wrong kind of effort, or effort put into the wrong area, could still gain you very little.

If you really want to know if your images are suitable for selling on microstock sites, put a few up for on this site and get opinions. It all takes a lot of time but is well worth it for the right images.

I have 60 images on Getty, 35 are Flickr, and I make sales from Flickr every month. The monthly totals vary but anywhere from 10 bucks to a few hundred. The RPI is better than the micros but the caveat is it takes a long time to get a lot of images up on Getty Flickr. They only allow you to submit 25 per month and for me they accept usually just a couple per month. Many others complain of the low acceptance rate as well. I could submit as many as I want under the photographers choice collection but at $50 per image for the placement fee it isn't worth the cost for me. So all my images go through the selection process of Getty / Flickr first, and any  that are not selected (which is most) go to the micros and Alamy.

Is there any benefit to uploading to Flickr without the Getty connection?

I don't believe there is any commercial benefit to being on Flickr any more than there is to being on facebook. It's a social/special interest thing. It can be a useful source of information if you are trying to find something out.

I have about 300 images in Flickr / Getty collection for sale now.
The average return is about $300 per month since 2010 July.

Flickr/Getty are not part of this "microstock business".

Problem with Flickr is you can download any image that someone post on that site...even if you check the don't allow download button.

They can be either RM or RF - it all depends on what they offer you. I would say most people get offered RF deals though.

I just noticed a link on the right of my images that says "Eligibility for Getty Images invitations". Is this standard for everyone? Never noticed it being there before.

As far as I know, it's an option for everyone. It just means, apparently, the Getty reps will look at your port and decide if they want to invite you to jump through their contribution hoops, including the real hassle if you don't live in the US and need to either pay double tax (US and your own) or get a waiver.

I have only 3 images with Getty and have so far earned about 2000 in sales over the last year. One was a recent sale for 1500.

Was that through the Flickr scheme?

Hi Sue...yes it was through Flickr. They chose 3 for RM and the rest they offered RF but I declined...so I just have the 3 images with them.

Lovely images - and my favorite is the same one Liz chose. It has a wonderful sense of the speed of the horses.

Oh man, you're photos are beautiful!   The wild horses are gorgeous (I agree too with Sue and Jsnover.  Same fave here :)).  I've only had a quick look at your others, but some of those Lake District shots are breathtaking.

You're work is just lovely.  Congratulations on some hard work that's clearly paid off.
