That would be good to test. I mean someone upload a series with equal parts, 24MB, 12MB and 6MB for example and see how they appear in the search.

There are many reasons for uploading as large as possible, higher price on some sites, maybe the buyer needs a larger photo. That could mean a sale, where a reduced size would not get a download.

There are also reasonable reasons for not making big images. Microstock pays little, why give away huge high quality images for small change? Acceptance, although that's the past, sometimes downsizing will get something passed when reviewed at full size. Storage, upload time, and most buyers are paying a one price for anything now. I'm not so sure that for Microstock, common photos for most buyers, that size matters much.

Another reason for large camera, small upload is, someone can crop to make a better composition, where picking portrait or landscape of square will make the image smaller. It's not reducing anything, but just mentioning, that is going to be less, and potentially make the image more desirable.

What I'm getting at is this. Size isn't one of the most important factors, subject, image, and usefulness means much more. I still say someone with an older camera, 8MPcrop sensor for example, could do just as well as someone with 24MB or 40MB, where the cost of production is far exceeding the profits for early years.

I think you are asking if you should upsize your images to be larger than the 24MP of the camera. If so, the answer is a VERY CLEAR NO.

Upload "full size" images.  That is, all the pixels remaining after you have cropped during editing.  However, DO NOT try to fake a larger image than is actually there.  That is expressly against the rules of pretty much every serious agency, and will get you banned if caught.

I guess the op is asking about if it's a good idea to downsize photos from 40 to 24
