Title: Windows 7/IPTC Question
Post by: Cricket on January 22, 2012, 12:45
Hi Guys,

I have a question that's really stumping me.

I have a bunch of photos where I used Irfanview to IPTC the title, keywords and description.  I would like to sort these photos that are in folders on my hard drive by the IPTC title but when I sort by Windows 7's version of Title... it sorts by the IPTC Description!

I know Windows 7 has a huge list of folder details that you can use to sort the contents of a folder so is there a way to sort by a photos IPTC title or not?

BTW... when I upload these files to various microstock sites, they seem to recognize the IPTC titles so I am not sure why Windows 7 cannot.

I just took a quick spin through the options and didn't see it off-hand, but it seems like it almost MUST be in there with the plethora of options available. I mean, you can sort by ISO or white balance, for crying out loud!

Perhaps some time spent on Google will solve the mystery...

Just thought I'd mention a general warning about Windows 7 and metadata... it b0rks stuff sometimes. Avoid it if you can. Try Lightroom or something with a bit more meat on it's bones than the inbuilt MS tools :)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I was just trying to sort some of my photos by titles.  I don't use Windows 7's photo tools for any editing since, as you said bobbigmac, it screws stuff up.

BTW guys, see my other thread on this topic. I posted twice yesterday by accident. The forum for some reason crapped out on me when I posted the first thread.  I just got a blank page after I posted the first thread and wasn't sure it had even posted and didn't see it until after I posted this second thread on the same topic.

I wish this forum had a way to delete one's posts...
